    Among many reasons, this is one of the reasons why I keep in touch with my friends from high school. One in particular is a lawyer, and I've asked him all kinds of questions. In a simple case like this, he'll do it pro-bono because he just can't see a merit in their case. On the other hand, I have hired him to do several pieces of work which needed a bit more than just a letter. Paid him well for it too

    If the patent runs out this year, sounds like stalling tactics are exactly the right way to go. Perhaps a pro-bono letter from a lawyer saying "we're examining the validity of your claim and we'll get back to you on that".

    If the system's that badly foobar-ed - I'd be booting into Linux from a known CD, retrieving what data I can and wiping the drive and starting again. I wouldn't even waste my time - it'd be quicker, and WAY more reliable.

    Not really. On a windows system:

    1) reboot into safe mode
    2) plug in USB key with known good copy of malwarebytes on it and install
    3) run malwarebytes and clean PC
    4) reboot
    5) update/install AV product of your choice and onto your next job

    I've just started playing with SymForm for backup. Upto 10GB free storage. After that you can pay either with Bytes (bandwidth, power and disk space) or dollars.

    I have this.

    In addition, I use a DLNA streaming server to stream content anywhere in my home - the TVs in the bedrooms, living room or kitchen. MediaTomb on my Ubuntu box works very well. Very simple with a web based admin page.

    It seems neither system is ideal.

    Government monopoly means everyone gets access, but the quality is rubbish.
    Private monopoly means people in high population densities get semi-reasonable access, everyone else can go fuck themselves. Even if everyone else wants the government to intervene they can't because the private monopoly has bought the government.

    You use fax machines still?

    Why not an email to fax gateway. They are typically way cheaper and you don't have a fax machine taking up space/toner/paper sat in the corner of the office.

    It would help if the Republican party (through Fox Noise) did keep on spouting about how this is how it's always been and that you should be lucky to have a job at all, let alone in this environment.     I refer you to the recent collapse of Hostess. This was not because of greedy unions, but because the CEOs were greedy fucks who plundered the company.

    Many years ago the psychologists discovered that CEOs were mostly sociopaths. So yes, many are bad/evil.

    As for having poorer executives resulting in better care - of course it would. If you have poorer executives, you can spend more on healthcare ergo better care.

    Democracies are good at certain things. They are very good at limiting wars because wars ultimately hurt population.

    If you compare the admin of medicare to the insurance industry. Medical industry around 15-20% spent admin, Medicare around 3%. What's so inefficient about that?

    ... I download all the manuals for kit I buy - even non computer related kit. They don't take up much space, and they just stay on my NAS until I ditch the piece of kit.

    Even the kit I buy for my customers, it just doesn't make sense to take the risk that the manual will disappear.
