An important point to bring up: How can we, with a straight face, toot our horns about the IBM funded report, while discounting Microsoft funded reports as biased because they are not funded by an independant group?
William Gates spoke with the CIO of Unilever and gave him sufficient bribes to ditch Linux. Under a nondisclosure agreement, Microsoft will offer free operating-system upgrades for the next 10 years to Unilever. Gates figures that losing a bit of revenue from Unilever more than compensates for the growth of revenue obtained by blunting the encroachment of Linux.
Maybe it's time for the Big Playas like Red Hat and Novell to start playing this game?
So, honestly, two operators in a dirty business go at each other, my personal feeling is I hope they both go down. It's kind of like two porn sites arguing which has the sluttiest bitches...
This guy has a point. At the megacorp where I work, they won't even hire anyone for the help desk (call center) without a BS.
Well, I think this says a lot about the quality of "education" in the USA, or at least the level of seriousness that kids take it. For example, what ratings do you think students are interested in? The "top" scholastic school? Nope, they want to know what the top PARTY school is. No wonder the USA is falling behind.
You're right. Your post should have been modded "Overrated" or (stretching) "offtopic". But most people here have already accepted that the Mod system at Slashdot is broken at least and simply a tody system.
I think that the marketing gurus are just running out of names that are not trademarked. It's the same with drugs and software. Soon, things will have to be named random strings so as not to conflick with some existing trademark.
What advantages does this database have over say a Cray supercomputer, which I could also afford.
Does not take up as much room, and someone else is responsible for the maintenance. It's too late for me, but you might benefit from my shortsightedness.
I have heard from several people that have had an MRI that (a) it is almost impossible to get scheduled in any reasonable timeframe for one and (b) they are 'incredibly expensive'.
Scheduling is not where I live, but they are spendy. But MRIs are considered a "cash cow" for most hospitals and facilities that have this expensive equipment. Health care is in fact a business.
Nope. Why would I want to pay for radio? The only reason I'd want such a service is if they regularly broadcast concerts.
Well, (NEWS FLASH!), they do offer that service. You pay for lots of stuff, many people actually - gasp - pay for inde music! Maybe you should look into sat radio befor you spout rubish, eh?
One can only speculate why this is, but none of the possibilities reflect very highly on Slashdot (Ad revenue? Gross stupidity? Boredom?).
I keep a can of it in my car, helps kill the "herb" aroma when the coppers pull me over...
This, this, and this post in this very story.

Most people treat 4 year colleg as a vocational school. The line has blured quite a bit over the past few years -- at least here in the USA.

I feel so FILTHY reading this "story" knowing full well that Zonk "edited" the blurb while pounding some underage babe on his parent's hardwood floor.
I agree. I do miss the cheasy cartoons, and I really HATE the adverts. Who needs that?
Surprisingly like the Mojave desert. Hmmm...

Reminds me too much about CherryOS... Not good.
Yes but it's a Python framework. PYTHON. That alone makes it HOT!

I dodn't think that VA Software would mind at all if Google bought them out. Sourceforge and all...
Like the moderation system here at Slashdot...
Sounds like good fodder for a PhD thesis... I see grant potential.
He's NOT that cute.
And of course if not for the need to have a military infastructure, the highways would not be here.
I never saw that with Comcast when I had it, must have been lucky? On the other hand, my QWest DSL sucks big time.
So this FUNNY post is INSIGHTFUL exactly how? It's a joke. Or is the joke the current state of Slashdot moderation?
