Whether they are paid is immaterial since they should not be treated as anything more than a low-security temporary intern.
And what is a "low-security temp intern" going to do for me that relates to security? Get me coffee? I wouldn't let these kind of hackers anywhere near my network.
If I was buying my grandmother a computer to browse the web and use e-mail, an eMac would be a good choice.
What's wrong with RH out of the box? Has Mozilla (you can load FF), does email, reads and writes CDs and diskettes.... Out of the box, no problems. You don't need to worry about all that messy Linux stuff if you don't want to.
I *am not* a power user (that's why my home system is WinXP), but for God's sake, all you Linux "gurus" try to make Linux sooooooooo hard, when the simple (God I hate this term) "Jos Six Pack" only needs email and web, and it's 100% functional OUT OF THE BOX with a simple RH install...
Offer your services to some companies for free if you have to...Right. Joe Blow Student walks in my door and offers his services in "security" for free. So I issue him a badge to get into the server room and of course he needs root. Right, sure, OK... Glad I don't work in your IT department.
In truth, if he has to ask Slashdot how to get an internship that his program requires, than his program sucks shit. His school needs to be providing these leads.
I think this is the solution to the problem, although for good form, you might want to find one or two in someone elses code. Perhaps a few students can get together and swap software they have written just for this course.
If you do not wish to replace your scanner with a new one for whatever reason, then you are going to be dependant on Win95/98. If you have no problem with that, fine. But, if you want / need Win2k or WinXP, than you will have to upgrade your scanner.
The thing to understand is that this is not really a Bad Micro$oft issue, it a Technology Moves On issue.
It's like saying "I see no reason to get rid of my 286, my big floppies are just fine for saving files.
Wow, I'm surprised that you where modded "interesting" since you do NOT tow the Slashdot line. You're quite correct, game developers choose to work in those types of sweat shops, instead of "real" IT shops, where the pay and treatment is generally much better. They need to "suck it up" or make a career change.
Aren't we all decedents of apes? I suspect this does not have much to do with it, unless you are trying to say that spammers are human like the rest of us? I bet that's not what you mean, right?
There is nothing illegal about repackaging GPL'd software so long as you comply with the licence (that is you make the source available under the terms of GPL). Or had you not noticed that Red Hat, Suse, Debian, etc all repackage GNU/Linux as their own?
I'm saying that there are in fact unscrupulous "developers" out there who are doing exactly that: repackaging Open Source without proper GPL notices.
Remember CherryOS? Remember NOUMEROUS/. stories on various Wine rip-offs??? Various p2p packages folded into commercial spyware??? Have you been asleep for a few years?
People could "take" you code and do anything with it, not have to contribute back, or even put the GPL back on it.
This is essentially what is going on right now. While ideologically superior, the GPL has no real teeth, and is abused left and right by unscrupulous "developers" who repackage Open Source as their own, either whole hog, or berried in a larger theft.
What company do you work for? Where is it? Do you lock your dumpster (will I need bolt cutters)?
Thanks!
Gee. It's modded "funny"...

Almost makes a First Class upgrade worth it, eh?
I didn't realise anyone actually used legit copies of PS...
"Who cares what they did to a 30 year old story??

Let me guess: You're under 30, possibly under 20. 'nuff said.

We are talking about a stamp machine, buying stamps and such, not the mechanics of mailing a 16 ounce package.

Sure, Comicbook Man, you are my hero!

If you have one Hell of a table. Have a look at the picture in the story.
I've always considered these toolbars to be spy malware in and off themselves.

I don't think they will. They are a business, not some non-profit copyright reform crusader.
Er, "Windows"??? We've been all over this before with Lindows. Google should have known better.
While there are some people who live on the Internet, there are many others who enjoy reading a book or newspaper. Newspapers are not going away.
At least, unlike your kind, I don't make a habbit of FUCKING MY CHILDREN.
