It's weird how we Americans hate porn so much more than violent media.

This one really confuses me. On the one hand, the United States is one of the most prudish societies on the planet (possibly only number 2 to various Muslim countries), yet for the most part, this is where the highest porn consumption is. It reminds me of all these city governments that want to ban titty bars by saying they attract sleaze from outside the area. Bullshit. The fact that there are so many titty bars and so much porn proves there are many many (probably hypocritical) people out there consuming this product.

Contrary to popular belief both here in the States, and abroad, there is nothing intrinsically more "advanced" about Europeans when it comes to greed. Like here, those in power are generally wealthy businessmen, and while they may have different ideas about what it takes to keep the hoi polloi happy (bare breasted ladies in advertising!), the truth is they are just as greedy and just as much "in the pocket" of corporate interests.

So, I'm not surprised that patents, consumer rights as related to music, and now this Microsoft thing, are going in the favorable direction of Big Business, rather than the consumer.

But the bottom-line it this: it's really a non-issue if you understand that it is wrong, illegal, and stupid to pirate a film with a video cam. Perhaps if this is too hard for you to grasp, you need to be culled from the herd as a benefit to everyone else.

For those of you that don't know, here is how this works: A company that has a bunch of musician / whores working for them produces a product. This product is sold to you under a contract. That contract has various things that you agree to when you buy it and play it. It does not allow copying 10,000 times to give to all your friends. It does not allow putting it on the Internet for others to download for free.

This is a simple contractual issue. By buying the music you agree to the terms. If you violate those terms, they sue you for damages. It's that simple.

Please do not respond to this post with pseudo-legal or pseudo-Socialist rants. This is a VERY SIMPLE CONTRACTUAL ISSUE. If you don't agree to the contract, don't buy the music.
