Yeah, you can refuse searches and they can't do much, but if they tell you to get out, you gotta go.

Funny enough as a sideline though, it's been ruled in the past that restaurants provide a service, not a product (there was a court case where a man was denied a to-go box for his steak at a high-end restaurant and the court ruled that the restaurant was providing him the service of eating there, not the product of the food), so if a restaurant asks you to leave then they've removed your obligation to pay, within reason. I was with some friends after going clubbing, and a whole bunch of people from that club were there, and a couple of groups were getting rowdy and the restaurant manager asked us to all leave. He then tried to pass out bills. I told him that as I was being forcibly ejected from his restaurant without finishing my meal and that he chose to discontinue service before it was complete that I would not pay my bill, and he backed down.

...because technologies similar to the ones that people are already familiar with, like DVD Audio, would occupy the same form factor as CDs, but give all of the audio quality that can be mustered, assuming that music is mastered properly. They store in the same space, load the same way, and players can be made in the same form factor (car DIN, bookshelf, component, rack-mount), and can even be played in existing DVD players.

The argument for going back to Vinyl is like if I were to argue in favor of going back to Laserdisc (which is analog) because analog will capture nuances that are left out of digitally-mastered DVDs. Mind you, I have 380 Laserdiscs, but I'm not about to argue that every Laserdisc is better, and I can only argue that one Laserdisc is truly better (the first Highlander DVD that I found is terrible for its digital artifacting).

Keep making Vinyl. DJs like it as it's cool looking and if they want to scratch they can, and yes, some people can tell the difference. The cover art is also really cool compared to CDs. But, don't reasonably expect vinyl to come back, especially when optical players are cheap.

Wouldn't building Cassini-like projects get cheaper per unit if multiple projects were designed off of a common reference and shared parts? Or just zoom in on women's low-cut tops and cleavage, or butts and "whale tail" thong sightings...

I guarantee that nearly everyone who saw such footage of themselves would be horrified beyond belief. When I was in high school I did a presentation on why video surveillance of innocent people was wrong. I hid a camera (which was very hard given the size of the average camcorder in 1995) in the classroom where it recorded, from a side vantage, my presentation and the class receiving the presentation unawares. I had the instructor's permission so that someone was aware of what I was doing. To underscore my point, to end my presentation I walked over, exposed the camera for the class, stopped the tape, took it out, and put it in the VCR, to play it for the class for a few minutes. The students, by and large, were irate. Even (maybe especially) those who were defending the position that surveillance was okay were mad. The principal received at least four telephone calls from angry parents, and several students complained quite angrily or tearfully to the teacher how what I did was wrong. There was no punitive action taken upon me (the Principal was very cool about some of this sort of thing), and the students learned a valuable lesson in privacy.

No, he'd probably do whatever they asked him to do, while you would object when they'd ask you to do something ridiculous/illegal/unethical. Or, if he's slower then he makes them more money for the repair, while if you're too quick and run out of work to do then they make less money, assuming that they bill per real hour of work performed. Or, he wouldn't think to not use the procedures that they want him to use to do whatever they want (such as format/reimage) while you'd take the time to fix the computer, assuming that the shop charges "by the job" rather than by hour worked... Or, they could hire him for jack shit and still get enough work done. Or, the manager realised that your degree in Computer Science isn't really applicable to replacing defective memory or installing operating systems, and that since you're college trained you'd be more of a pain in the ass as an employee, and would critique or criticize the way the place is run. If I may offer a criticism, it's very difficult to believe that he didn't know "what Linux was" at least to be able to answer that it's an operating system. Also, lots of computer people that I know used to work in food service, or in custodial/janitorial, or the like, and managed to get beyond that and improve their careers. Being that, "[he]...used to work in fast food." I'd be inclined to say to him, "good for you, getting ahead to something better than Wendy's", while your "I have a degree in Computer Science and 7 years IT experience..." comes across poorly. It makes you sound, rightly or not, like you're elitist and that you feel you're entitled to get what you want, along the lines of a Lord among the commoners. If that impression is in error then it would behoove you to consider working on those communications skills, as being able to sell others on giving you the work is as important, if not moreso unfortunately, then being able to do the work itself. If you're never given the chance to do it (though one hell of a sales pitch) then it doesn't matter if you're better than anyone else or not. Personally, if I were hiring, I would probably steer away from you for a very low-level computer service and repair job, simply on account of you being unhappy in the job due to your overqualified nature. I would honestly wonder why you were willing to even consider a job that far beneath you, especially if better, more challenging jobs that match your skillset are available. Computer languages and programming aren't needed beyond a little bit of batch scripting in that kind of position, and after a number of years in IT you should be interested in managing and servicing volumes of PCs in a structured environment where individual PC skills are needed, but the ability to coordinate repair, rollout, and preventative maintenance go far above and beyond what the youngin' from Best Buy would be able to even understand.
