I doubt they will collect and that is why this will not effect spam traffic. Since the defendants were not present at the trial, I wonder if they were even able to serve them with the summons and complaint. Unlesss we can actually track these guys down and then punish them, nothing will change. The real answer is going to be developing the technology to filter all of this out as soon as it comes into the pipeline.
So would I, it didn't really sound like he did any actual damage, just used some storage space. And no I am not condoning what he did. I still am amused by this blowing up of damages every time one of these cases come about. I just wonder what the sentence would have been if he broke into a local warehouse and stored some stuff there. He gets 6 months here and then the additional sentence of limited computer use for 3 years. Pretty tough sentence on a CS major.
Whatever system we use, someone will piss and moan. My area (Indiana) used punch cards up until the big deal in FL 4 years ago. And contrary to what the news media was trying to claim, punch cards were not relegated to poor black areas. This is a middle class white area. Never heard of anyone being confused by the ballots or having any problems whatsoever. If you were too stupid to stick a stylus into a hole, then you are probably too stupid to cast an intelligent vote.
Ah, our friends to the North appear to be wanting the straddle the proverbial fence:
Abstentions: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Canada, Cape Verde, Colombia, Jamaica, Peru, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Ukraine and Uruguay.
In the United Nations a measure was considered to address human cloning. That measure was not taken up and has been postponed until next year. The following countries wanted to take up the issue and are assumed to be against human cloning:
Against: Albania, Andorra, Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Austria, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burundi, Central African Republic, Chile, Costa Rica, Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gambia, Georgia, Grenada, Guatemala, Guinea, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Malta, Marshall Islands, Micronesia (the Federated States of), Nauru, Nepal, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Norway, Palau, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, San Marino, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, Slovakia, Solomon Islands, Somalia, Spain, Suriname, Tajikistan, Timor-Leste, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, United States of America, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Venezuela and Zambia.
Obviously we need to greatly expand our NASA budget and start preparing to colonize other planets... wait, you don't think that is the point of scaremongering us, is it?
There are few details and alot of it makes little sense. They are being forced to expense something that does not effect revenues or profits. The company is diluting ownership in the company by issuing additional stock. But the total value of the company remains the same. Granted it has been a few years since I studied this in college, but I am a bit confused. My company does not even allow any of the option to be excercised for a certain number of years and then it is on a sliding scale percentage wise. How are you going to expense that? Is it expensed in the year of issue even though none of it is excercisable. Is it expensed in the year it is excercised?
I know it says you can win a book, but this smells like those Google job application tests that were in the magazines a few months back. Come up with enough correct answers on these tests and who knows....
I wouldn't get too excited. They just held that the law needs to be changed as it currently does not give authority for taxes on anything other than media. If people are not going to bother burning music to CDs any more, they may amend the law to also apply to storage devices designed to store and play music.
I agree that we should keep the environment as clean as we can. I do not understand most of the threads on here. The article had alot of conjecture and some throw away phrases. The main point that I got out of the actual article (not the poorly written summary) was that the catastrophic event seemed to correlate to a change in solar activity. I doubt that our ancient ancestors could have been the cause of that.
These are video games.... you really think that this should be as serious as the Oscars. And by the way, exactly what is wrong with scantily clad females?
But does it really matter. Do we really think that MS is going to allow this. They will break this with every update if they think they can. MS is not going to want people to become accustomed to nix apps.
Maybe Slashdot can make some money by letting them license their name. Then all the Nerds could recognize each other in real life by observing their official Slashdot audio player.

Man, not the largest ciy in NH...... I can't believe they missed that one ;-)

Maybe use some of the money to hire a consultant that might actually know something. I mean seriously, you have read slashdot before haven't you?
Really, what country is that between the Phillipines and Portugal.

I can't wait for someone to release a script that I can use to show what a leet haxor I am.
"It's getting bad when the person submitting the story doesn't even RTFA." Oh C'mon, he's still a slashdotter isn't he?

never mind the music industry, I am more interested in learning about this "musid" industry ;-)

#3 and the real reason...... More time for slashdot!
Not at all. I think the presence of scantily clad women has little if anything to do with whether something is serious or not.
Of course they do, they also have a room full of scantily clad females in attendance at the Oscars.
Oh, bull crap. Some of my favorite games had scantily clad females in them. So to pretend Spike TV invented the culture is being misleading.
These are video games.... you really think that this should be as serious as the Oscars. And by the way, exactly what is wrong with scantily clad females?
I had some really witty comments all made up and ready to go, but since the site is down people might suspect I didn't read the article....

I hear that if they get a standing ovation, they will play the wockawockawocka of pacman.
