yeah, but no kid would ever write something like that on their own, because its full of cheese. cheesey, i say. like a giant pot o' mac and cheese.
anyways... as i was saying, no kid would write that. They would say they were sorry, and they never meant to hurt anyone, blah blah; but they would never say something like "this will stay with me for the rest of my life, ive done a terrible thing."
thats the last thing they want to admit, they're already in denial by simply claiming its the game's fault. Fact is, they were shooting *guns* at *people*, and they're fucking stupid not to realize what that means.
Driver 3 (ps2 link, but it also comes out on XBOX, GC and PC), and T.H.U.G. (tony hawks underground, XBOX link, and its on everything but PC)
Driver 3 will be a grittier, more realistic, more rigid GTA, with some of the nicest graphics ive ever seen; THUG will be tony hawk, just with some GTA features... I think they are trying to take a bite out of GTA's market share by adding some gimmicks. The city building feature, however, is pretty cool.
damn thing never catches my linebreaks; i have to use HTML.... heres what i wrote with breaks, hopefully easier to read:
RTFA! Spawn fits right into the game, while link (although a very exciting addition) and heiachi don't. Also, the GC's controller isnt good for fighting games (i would debate that, i think its just different -- not worse) it says it right there.
"While Spawn was an unexpected choice, he fits into the world of Soul Calibur II pretty seamlessly. He's a lot of fun to play, too, as he's gifted with supernatural powers. Like GameCube's Link (and unlike PS2's Heihachi) the developers have taken an established character but made him their own, and consequently his presence enriches the game to an unexpected degree. The Xbox's Controller S is also pretty handy for SCII, so no complaints there. "
"Heihachi is the weakest of the platform-specific characters by a long way. He just doesn't fit with the rest of the SC crew; even fellow Tekken alum Yoshimitsu has a sword. Worse, his stale punch-punch-punch combos stink of the inferior series he was dragged out of. He's an effective character, and the graphics team has gone a long way to presenting him as lavishly and seamlessly as can be in the world of SCII. He just isn't up to snuff, however. On the other hand, the Dual Shock is easily the best pad of the three for playing the game, which makes everyone control just a bit smoother."
"Link is probably the most exciting of the platform-specific characters to most hardcore video game fans; everyone I know, just about, imported or preordered the GameCube version to get their hands on the little green elf. He turns out to be an excellent character in SCII although he doesn't quite fit into the mix visually. Namco has lovingly recreated all of his signature attacks, and created an effective and fun character that you can really get a lot out of. The GameCube's pad is a detriment to playing SCII -- while you can get used to it, it's extremely awkward. "
Plus, the XBOX supports 720p, (the other consoles dont) which although most people wont benefit from, is still there and should get the marks.

Actually, im not a sports game fan at all. I get my views from what other people have told me and most of them say that 2k3/ESPN is a better game than Madden, which is growing stale.
But what i am saying is, its the uniques that make the console. Madden is on all three consoles, no? so then how would that affect a buyer's choice of console? it wouldnt. A person's choice of console is based much on the uniques, ie GTA, Halo, Zelda. I dont want to get snitty here, but as you said, "Don't confuse what grab's your attention with what the majority of people are looking for."
and what they base their choice of console on will NOT be the sports game, because it is out on all three consoles. they will purchase based on the uniques, and the specs of the console.
>Just like Microsofts xBox model has pretty much >killed any idea RPG's will be as big as they are on
>the Playstation, this will fianlly seal the deal,
no, just japanese RPGs -- japan hasnt caught on to the XBOX as well as hoped (thats something of an understatement, actually -- MS is being slaughtered over there) and so no Japanese RPGs are coming out for it. but KoTOR? Fable? Morrowind? Baulder's gate? Fallout? Sudeki?
XBOX has many RPGs coming out for it, just none of them japanese. (save for that sega rpg that i always forget what its called...)
>with only Microsoft bought companies like Bungie >being the only thing xBox has going to keep it >alive.
Ubisoft has put out some excellent games for the XBOX, and other developers are starting to come to it. Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon were both excellent. and SEGA has supported XBOX very much from the start. PDO, JSRF, GT2002, GTonline, NFL2k3/ESPN, Baseball2k3/ESPN, etc... SEGA still makes awesome games.
And dont forget Microsoft itself, which does make some pretty decent games...
>People are going to go with Sony simply cause EA is
>the better brand, even if Microsofts lineup is >superior. Everyone has grown up with EA games, and
>knows what to expect.
what was, no longer is. EA now makes some really, really buggy games, although alot of them are pretty cool (BF1942 and CnC:Generals, fir instance, take both categories; they are really cool games, but very buggy).
And people dont go with sony because of EA, they go with sony because of Sony itself, Square, and Rockstar/TTWO. No one gives a horses ass about EA, if they need a football game, theres another 3 choices out there. Its the uniques that grab people's attention -- final fantasy, GTA3, etc...
there's one thing SONY lacks, and can never accquire on the ps2:
patches.
no matter how good the developer, no matter how good the testers, games will always have bugs that affect gameplay, and online games will always have people trying to exploit these bugs.
go ahead and try to play SOCOM online -- whereas XBOX LIVE bans anyone with a modchip from online play, and sooner or later patches every vunerability that someone finds, SONY cant -- you cant download a 30-meg patch onto a 8 meg memory card, and even if you could, it would cost the players and extra 20$ each time a patch comes out (hmm.. interesting revenue model;) )
anyways.. as a result, SOCOM is now plagued by masses of cheaters, and they cant be stopped. thats the main advantage MS has over sony.
they are. case in point: Battlefield1942
heres what basically happened:
Battlefield1942 was supposed to have been ported to XBOX for XBOXLIVE this year -- but guess what? EA (the publisher) told DICE (the developer) that they wouldnt support it, because of agreements with sony. DICE decided to get Microsoft to publish it, and make it without EA's help... the very next *WEEK*, EA bought DICE, and released a press-statement thingie saying that they were very sorry, but the XBOX version of BF1942 would have to be cancelled, as the team was working hard on the road to rome expansion. The Road to Rome went gold two days later.
EA has been doing alot to give XBOX the shaft; subpar ports of PS2 games, not supporting XBOX live, refusing to cooperate with microsoft on just about everything.
ive pretty much stopped buying anything from EA anyways, as they are releasing crappy games now, anyways... Most of their PC games are getting zero-day patches already... bf1942, CnC:Generals...
nope, its wither due to dirty discs, or the fact that that person had a bad DVD drive -- Microsoft used to use 3 brands of DVD drives, tompson, phillips, and samsung.
The tompson (RCA) drives were crap, so now they just use phillips and samsung drives, which are both much, much better at reaing discs
not exactly, its a 2048-bit encryption key built into the XBOX of which the code must be carried on any microsoft-approved product.
dont have the key, and it wont play the game. hence the need for a modchip, which bypasses the need for a key check.
well, you should really see the expo stadium in montreal, which is really just magnificent.. its a work of art.
only costs like 5 bucks to go to the top, iirc, and its a nice view of montreal anyways...
umm.. cathedral de notre dame is really cool.. very intricate... almost made me wanna stop being an athiest!;)
(which of course makes it an absolute must if you ARE religious)
other than that... oh, by the water theres this really cool place that you MUST go.. just trust me on this, you wont regret it even if it doesnt sound *that* amazing -- it really is. i dont remember exactly where it is, just that its along the water (yes, there is alot of places along the water -- but you'll end up there, trust me.) actually, its a few blocks away from notre dame iirc... you can see the expo 67 habitat from it (which btw is also a must-see... just check the link i jsut provided to see what i mean. --yes, those are apartments.)
anyways.. you'll be walking along the street and you will come to a fork in the road. there will be this giant wedge shaped building.. that is where you want to go.
basically, it is this building where they found ruins of old civilizations.... you go in, and go down some stairs... and suddenly it is all stone. theyve left these big native graves untouched, and you can see the remains... then it goes across the street, all the while gaining time --- literally. as it goes back up to street level, you'll see all these civilizations that have been uncovered after like 1000 years... really crazy. i just cant express how underrated it is.
umm.. thats about it for montreal i guess. we'll skip ottawa, which is cool, but most of the attractions there are museums; and what isnt is really only cool in the wintertime (the rideau canal -- worlds longest public skating rink)
on to toronto..... you MUST check out the CN tower, still the worlds tallest free-standing structure. YES! the worlds tallest structure IS in canada!
http://www.skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=2 1&drawingID=21
the sears tower, 2nd tallest roof-wise (otherwise the Ostankino Television Tower in moscow is actually higher -- 540 meter antenna BUT it only has a 385 meter roof) is still only 442 meters tall (527m w/ anttena) whereas the CN tower is 553 with antenna, 457 without.
so yeah, thats a must-see.
downtown toronto is just really nice, spend at least a day or two here just taking everything in... try the areas around the eatons center, the docks, and some cultural areas (little italy, the danforth (greek)...)
umm... thats about it from my personal experience Canada-wise. US-wise, cape canaveral is a must, i mean.. its cape canaveral. 'nuff said.
I fear that "fragementation" of earths resources by components becoming smaller and smaller will soon threaten the economy.
i recently visited a junkyard to obtain a part for my father's car, and realized that we currently cannot do this with comptuers! we can canabalize car parts, they are large enough to take a wrench to and transplant, but computer parts are too incompatible, become outdated way too fast, and are too small to canabalize.
i also saw a special on next@CNN a few months ago which highlighted this problem elsewhere -- asia. Asia has had a great leapstart on technology, and goes through technology much faster than we do in the "western" world. As a result, they have huge piles of waste of which they are mostly unable to "harvest" recycled material from. They showed footage of huge piles of circuitboard in Taiwan (or Thailand... one of the "T" countries:P ) being picked at by small children.
Even what they CAN salvage material from is hard, involving harsh chemicals and lots of work. Child labour is involved of course (its Asia..) and children are being routinely exposed to lead (in monitors) and chemicals to dissolve components on circuit boards.... very sad.
you forget that sporks dont work as well as forks and spoons.
my XBOX plays DVDs just as well as any other DVD player, plays CDs as well as any other CD player (and has visualizations to boot), can double as an mp3 jukebox just as good as any other mp3 jukebox.... not to mention the stunning games that it is meant for.
whereas a spork's spoon side has holes in it and is far too clumsy and blunt to use as a fork; my XBOX performs all the functions it claims to exceptionally.
So you think that the X-prize will be won within the next decade? Then its too bad the competition expires at the end of 2004...
yeah, but no kid would ever write something like that on their own, because its full of cheese. cheesey, i say. like a giant pot o' mac and cheese. anyways... as i was saying, no kid would write that. it wasnt supposed to be 'witty'. it was supposed to be.. how shall i put it... "exaggeratedly descriptive"
:) some interesting stuff there...
did anyone get to cheesebikini before it was brutally raped by the hoard of voracious geeks and nerds?
;)
(dontcha love my wording?)
would it be possible to file a class-action suit against EA (or similar) for selling defective products?
hmm.. canada....
