Whether or not they suck a nut (and you are right, most of them do), they still make money...and on this topic, everyone seems to find it so important how many Cubes have been sold compared to Xboxen...so I'd say if MS is selling more games than Nintendo, regardless of quality, then by the arguments here it must be a good thing.
Your comment is asinine...since all the current console discs are DVD based and therefore all the drives that read the discs are DVD drives, how is it a major price hike? Sure, if they charge money for a remote, THEN it is a price hike. Otherwise, the console is still the same price since it HAS to use a DVDROM to read the games!
I own a GC and I would be extremely pissed if I found out Nintendo was just holding out till I spent more money for a new console. That would be a slap in the face.
They have voice communication in games, the best online service, and (I could be wrong on this, but I'd be surprised) they make more first party games than even Nintendo for their main console.
Somehow I'm not seeing major problems in moving forward to next generation ideas...
You claim to be a long time gamer, yet you act like you completely missed out on the history of Sega.
They did not just fulfill some prophecy. Do you mean to tell me that the CD drives additions and the Saturn itself had nothing to do with their collapse?
Trust me, Sega had a black cloud over its head before the Dreamcast came out...
Nintendo does have games like Ikaruga though; while they don't sell nearly as much, they have a strong following among the community that does play them.
The problem I see is that for Nintendo, this is really the second failed console in a row (think Sega...they had several fail and finally dropped out). I hate to say the N64 was a failure, but it came up way short of expectations AND it ended up losing the console war with the Playstation.
That's why I wonder about Nintendo's future...because this isn't just "one misstep"; this is a continuation on a previous misstep (despite the fact that the GC corrects on several errors the N64 made).
Besides, I think you know as well as I...even if the PS3 sucked, it probably would still sell more due to the massive amount of new gamers (wankers) who have no taste in gaming since they haven't been around since the days of the original systems.:/
You seem to ignore that the PS2 has stuff like Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, and Grand Theft Auto; all of these game, while just being new editions of the series, sell extremely well. So having an updated version of a game is not harmful.
Btw, gimme some numbers on the GC selling 1.5 million more than the Xbox. I'll believe it when I see some credible stats...
Since Zelda is presumably the largest selling point of the GameCube, you can make assumptions on whether or not poor sales are a sign for the future. Early sales of games are decent measures for sales later on...if they are weaker than you expected at first, the game will not sell as much as you would've wished (there are exceptions, but they are few and far between).
If they were so insignificant, Nintendo would not waste their time telling the public this early in development of the next console that it will have online capabilities.
Arguing otherwise would show that you have no knowledge of Nintendo's history.
But Apple can be arrogant and charge a huge amount of money for their machines (aka, they can bring in the revenue to survive with such a small market). If Nintendo turns into a company that ends up driving up prices for the select few that continue to play with a Nintendo console, it will certainly fail.
They can claim that they will, "do it right," but the unfortunate problem is that they are way behind on perfecting services right now. I guarantee that if they release a service with the next gen console, it won't be even close to as polished and well done as Xbox Live since Nintendo will not have had actual gamer usage beyond some mere beta tests or something similar.
Ilium is far from being as good as Hyperion, but it is extremely ambitious and interesting. The multiple plot threads are handled extremely well. A great read and hopefully Olympos will finish it up as well as Ilium started it.
I was wondering how far down I'd have to scroll to see something on this book.
I think you are referring to IGN when you refer to advertising dollars going to far. Even when it isn't game related (McGriddles...haha).
Seriously, Gamespot is the least bought out of all the sites. Sure, some of their reviews are still questionable but the percentage is much less than all the other sites.
Atleast with Postal 2, Gamespot admits that while the game isn't great, it nails its target. It brags about its intentions and fulfills them unlike a lot of games that fail to even have mediocre success with their intentions.
Gamespot gave ETM plenty of ripping, but unfortunately Gods & Generals was just so bad that nothing could possibly surpass it in terms of crappiness.:D

Could've found you a Game Boy Player in every store I went in. :|

Amazing that you say Xbox Live is a selling point when you say the only good game is Halo, a game that doesn't use Live.
Go play some Xbox games and come back when you aren't spewing out garbage.
Wish I could give you a +1 for insightful...

Sometimes sales figures aren't everything...

How is MS the clear loser? It is innovating everything for the future at the moment...

That's why they should just port it to the Xbox and stop selling anything else for the system in Korea...

Good to know that people with no clue can still get moderator points...
The subject says it all...
Rest of it is "N-Gage sucks?" I'm looking at it right now and I only see that in one paragraph...
Good job of oversimplifying it...
...they will change the engine. ;)
