  6. unbelievable, yet very believable on Apple Bans Sexy Apps, Developers Upset · · Score: 2, Insightful

Apple makes some of the dumbest moves in regards to the lifeline of their app store - the developers! Boy are they good at pissing people off! I'm a very happy shareholder (picked it up at 27 back when...!) but every day there's some new twist that they've pulled and alienated this group or that. I think parental controls and allowing any app that doesn't do harm to the phone itself would be their best stance - how many sales are they missing because of these China-like rules?

I get it all the time - nobody can say Firefox, it's always Foxfire. Drives me nuts. I've been doing on-site service with the company I started for 10+ years and I really would love to be insulated from the customers. I don't want to deal with them on the phone or via e-mail, I want to show up and fix what needs fixin' or whatever else I have to do. Babbling on the phone about the same thing over and over again is driving me crazy.

I thought Dell 'got it' and was behind those of us that want XP instead of the nightmare that is Vista. How can they be raising the cost of older software?! Makes me sick. (They do run deals with no upgrade costs *sometimes* as far as I know.) On a side note: It was $99 before for the upgrade/downgrade to Vista, how is $150 three times the previous cost? I've worked on many a Vista computer (including beta testing back when) and I've never liked it, and have really grown hate it. What a waste of power. On a brand new system, "Please wait while Vista tests the performance..." Are you kidding? Nice out of box experience. Simply transferring files can be such a pain and so slooooooooow. UAC triggers a gag reflex.

  18. finally! on Microsoft Worried OEM 'Craplets' Will Harm Vista · · Score: 3, Insightful

I never thought it would come from Microsoft since they want their OEM customers to be happy, but it's about time somebody raised a stink about the BS that gets installed by the OEMs themselves. Toshiba & Sony I believe are the worst culprits. They install so much shit on the computer - at least 10 startup items and services - it's a complete joke. And then when you encounter something like what Toshiba does to the built-in power management functions of Windows - they won't let you get to it! "Please use the Toshiba power management applet..." BYTE ME! You'd think they would want the overall PC experience to reflect well on their brand too, so slowing down everyone's brand new PC with a load of junk isn't the way to go.

I still have my original VHS tapes which were recorded off of regular TV way back when. I remember using our VCR that had a wired remote control! lol At this point they've been viewed so many times you can barely see ANYTHING in ESB because everything is so dark. I was extremely pumped that they were releasing the "originals" on DVD, only to be crushed by this mess with a bad transfer. Didn't they digitally remaster the originals before making all of those changes?! Can't they use that to make these new DVDs?! They took away the orignal Ewok song / celebration at the end of ROTJ. That part always gave me the shivers. Now we've got that awful multi-world celebration and that horrible music - what were they thinking! And that f'n' animated creature singing in Jabba's palace - hold on, I have to wipe the puke off my shoes.

  23. Re:Parent post is moronic. on Has Anyone Seen the Moon Pictures? · · Score: 1

You know this because you were there, correct? Or you just take the govt's word for it? My point is simple; How on earth could they lose or misplace those recordings of such a monumental event?! Any why on Earth have we not landed and played football on the moon by now if we were walking on it that long ago? It was propoganda to try and prove that we're better than Russia, simple as that. This is what I believe, that's all. It's like the old religion arguement. People can say all they want, but I say "prove it".

  24. Re:Parent post is moronic. on Has Anyone Seen the Moon Pictures? · · Score: 1

Then so is the child... for you to get so upset that someone else doesn't buy in to the story that we never went to the moon... and now OOOPS! We've lost the original recordings! How convenient! I am a sci-tech nut, I love the exploration of space, but sadly I do not think we ever landed on walked on the moon. We did it 50 years ago but not once since then? No moon base yet? Nothing?! Losing the tapes is the last straw for me. Humans can and do accomplish extraordinary things, but landing and walking on the moon isn't one of them.

Apple and Quicktime, yes, you are also idiots. What a waste of space! I don't need or want extra, pointless icons and software that adds itself to startup only to waste memory & time. The fact that Firefox comes with Realplayer and not the other way around is the only good thing about this move. Here's to the sites that force folks to get deal with Realplayer in the first place - you're idiots too. Wow, I've wanted to vent on that for a long time.
