I must retract my previous statement, as mr Fluke has told me that the telephone lines in this office maintain 48VDC. Do NOT attempt to lick those pretty red and green wires.
It probably did ring to produce such a jolt. Dial tone is something like 5VDC. Ring voltage is 96V. It is doubtful a non-ringing telephone line could induce pain worse than a 9v battery.
The 80's and 90's were the Blockbuster generation. Everyone had a VCR. An entire industry was born because of ubiquitous video players. Films no longer died the day the left the theaters, they could live again on the movie shelf. All of this is because of recordable video tape, and the devices which could use it. The installed base of millions of players was required for a viable industry, which never would have materialized if not for the ability to record and re-watch television broadcasts. Again and again we see industry associations trying to prevent through legislation the inevitable, rather than setting the trend through sound business practice based in market research. High-quality downloadable music surfaced around 1997. Large corporations missed the boat because they were too busy trying to tell customers what they should want instead of listening to what the people wanted. It is 2004, and I want quality music on my computer now, and in my car, on my stereo, and on my walkman, and I want it to be cheap. $20 per copy of shitty music on flimsy media that I have to drive 10 miles to get, or wait for in the mail? They gotta keep up with the times. Its stupid. If you are at odds with your customers, you have to change, not your customers.
Apple generally enjoys positive PR in print media and perky goodwill in the marketplace, especially from younger, hipper demographics trained from birth to shun expensive labels or corporate identity...
This is actually a quote from the article. I guess Apple has nothing to do with expensive branding and corporate identity.
Or network cables, or any other product on my network. As a network admin, you have to trust at least that the components you install on your network. Besides, unsolicited http is exactly the same as unsolicited smtp. Regardless of whether its penis pills or newtork services, I don't want it. This is worse however, as it not only sends unwanted packets, but destroys valuable data, which may or may not be vital to the operation of the network, or my company, or my job. Sorry Belkin, you lost my trust.
I dont know anyone that has played any game (not in multiplayer) for more than a year. no matter how much they like it.
Pacman, Tetris, every Mario, most racing games, and basically anything with a score to beat, or no attainable end can keep me playing forever. It basically comes down to having a well-tuned level design to be diverse and challenging throughout the playing experience with a smooth learning curve. Minutes to learn, lifetime to master sort of thing. That's a good game, to me, and that's what I spend my hard-earned gold pieces on.
So what you're saying is that with a global warming trend strong enough to melt the polar ice caps, Europe would be much colder? Its not that I don't understand the principle, its just that, well, define irony.
That's pretty convenient when it comes to seeing something that no human has
seen in recorded history.
True, but mars is further away from the sun than us, and naturally when we are closest to it, we will be in pretty much the same point in our orbits. Therefore, its on the opposite side of the earth as the sun, appearing as a full mars, and rising/setting with our night.
That doesn't however make it impossible to create a machine which is at least as good as a human at translating...
I believe you are referring to the Turing test, or at least something close to it. Do that, and you have created (arguably) true artificial intelligence. I for one welcome our... ah screw it.
Option a) Only share non-RIAA music online.
This is really their worst nightmare, and the reason they want filesharing eliminated. The fear is that too much freedom of information could break their oligopoly (Along with MPAA types) on entertainment, possibly pushing the price of an album to less than $15 (gasp!) Even worse, people could start listening to music from independent labels who encourage the internet community (read: everyone, especially young people who like music, it just makes sense) to do their promotion for them.
Well, clearly this must be stopped.
If Sony and RCA had it their way, it would be illegal for non RIAA labels to produce music. And while we're at it, lets be serious, we can live without major label bands. Try it, go download something off the internet, something off of a mp3-friendly band's actual website, one you haven't heard before. You might like it. Fill your P2P shared folder with the like. Why be an unpaid distributor for the mega-corporates? This is how the revolution starts.
Seriously, I have problems picking up TV stations at all without cable, and the broadcast is only ~20 miles away (over hilly terrain). Granted I don't have the best antenna, but we're talking about lightyears here. The only signal I pick up reliably is the Sun (just tune your TV to some random station, it comes in quite clear, channel 8 works pretty well for me). Alas, I find little evidence of intelligent life on cable either. Its all random noise.
What happens when the Bacteria decide its their lake? Next thing you know, they're making de-bigulators. I for one welcome our new microbial overlords.
Yeah, turns out you're right. I work for a telecom company, I should be fired.

This would be a really great way to cheat at XXX Photo Hunt on those touch screen games they have at bars.

What world am I living on?
This should say almost every day
Well, guess I won't be using any Belkin routers.

No, but I'd like to see them claim copyright infringement on back-door code.

Bill Gates probably thinks every OSS/FS developer should have a copy of windows too.

On tractor trailers.
