To be correct, any motorized vehicle that can do more than 25 km/h has to be licensed etc. Electric wheelchairs and bicycles with small electric motors are ok because they are to slow.
On another note: I know of at least two friends of friends of mine which have built similar vehicles. One was a combination of a moped and a sofa:-) (Btw, I'm german as well)
Been using Beta3 for a week now through ubuntu-backports, and the thing which irritates me most are the harsh settings towards wrongly configured ssl-servers. It doesn't just spew out a warning box, but tells you that you shouldn't access the site and you have to go to the preferences to set an exception manually. I never really realised how many bad ssl-certificates are out there...
I'd still argue they should be able to run. If the majority of people believe that a dictatorship is the way to go, then, in a real democracy, that's the way it's gotta go. My guess is that the chances of that happening are nil anyway.
You are referring to the dictatorship of the majority, not democracy. Democracy is more than majority rule, with indivual rights and opposition and whatnot. And it did happen. Sorry for Godwins Law, but Hitlers Party had nearly the majority, and came to power with the help of other right-wing parties using the democratic rules of Germany of the time.
The exact same spirit applies to free speech. Anyone should be able to deny the holocaust openly. It's up to society at large to consider and then dismiss such claims with their own free thought, research, and insight, rather than be protected from this kind of speech by censors. That's how one learns about things, and many governments are blocking it out. I truly envy the US for their society, which, at large, seems to cope with that. I just don't have that trust in my fellow Europeans, especially my fellow Germans. The generation of my grand-parents voted for one of the biggest dictators, and i want to be damn sure that this doesn't happen again.
Just to clarify: "hate speech" here doesn't mean the same thing as the hate crime discussion in the US. TFA mentions anti-semitism, islamophobia etc. So if you think, by saying "Kill all jews", someone is stating their morals, then fine. Don't get me wrong, I'm as sceptical against any censorship as the next guy. But the issue here is saying "the holocaust didn't happen, but i think we should make it happen", and not "i think homosexuals are gay".
My friggin constitution states I'll go to jail if I praise the wrong political party. Well, if you refer to praising parties which have their roots in that one party committing the prime example of genocide, then yes, i think you should go to jail. Comparing censorship with the defense mechanisms to ensure that stuff like that never happens is a bit daft, even if these measures result in censorship. Illegalizing denial of the holocaust is different issue than denying access to lonelygirl15s videoblog.
This shows two points: Cameras aren't really good at beating crime, they just push it to areas without CCTV; and they don't go the real root of the problem. I always prefer the proper solution to the prophylactic one. If I get ill, get headache or something, I try to get rid of it properly instead of taking loads of aspririn.
This is great. So youre saying you're being forced being racist/sexist/whatever because of measures to combat racism/sexism/whatever? sorry, but sounds like an excuse to me.
completely off-topic, but he denied the holocaust in austria, where it is illegal to do so, where he was trialed. besides, if had went back to britain, he'd be in jail anyway.
This could really be a thing to change the meaning of a handshake. Say its good manners to let your PDA transmit your vcard as soon as it sees another one. When you dont want to give your address to someone, you dont shake your hands with them. Or you wear gloves all the time, and only take them off if you want to give out your data.
you are right, the greens are generally counted to the left wing. on a national level they are against software patents, and imho this was not a bad move from them. They only raised the question what will happen to the migration if the EU passes software patents. The migration is at a point where going back isn't really an option given the money which was spent already, and the money which is available (which is next to none). Therefore it raises awareness about the whole issue and shows the average politician the link between software pantents and FOSS. The paradox about this is, that the german domestic department recommends using FOSS in public service, whereas the department of justice voted for software pantents in the EU. Should stir some people up, me thinks.
over here in Germany, Biodiesel is getting very popular already, as the prices for a liter of gas have risen well over a dollar. If im correctly informed, than taxes on gasoline are generally higher in Europe than in the US, and with our green party being part of the government, biodiesel is even sort of subsidized. The use is getting quite widespread, with probably one gasstation per 50,000 habitants having biodiesel. And they make it from rape-oil (at least thats what my dictionary says what its called).
"then nobody can sway them otherwise because they are a sovereign state and don't have to comply with what the WIPO or the EC says."
Thats not quite correct. I suppose decisions like these are made in the Council, and this is probably an issue were there is no need for a consensus. This means that Germany and France could vote against, but if the other 23 states vote for this, then it doesn't matter what Germany or France think.
Plus, if the EU decides something, then Germany has to comply. You would be surprised by the effect the EU has on the domestic policy of the member states, no matter how big or important they are.
Its certainly true that none of this stuff hit the top ten anywhere recently, but IMHO you will never get the big players to release their stuff un-DRMed. The only way to go is the way that warp has went, to release their stuff directly.
The "major breakthrough" is going to arrive when more and more labels go this way, so these artists get the money they deserve, and not that huge middleman...

Two lines in the Underground in Nuremberg are fully automated since June.

Linksys? as far as i remember they opened up the code for wrt54g because of violation of the gpl'ed netfilter code.

Based on the comments I read I would replace "US" with "UN/EU".
