I hadn't been to his personal site in a couple of years so I checked the site index. There was some really weird stuff about
his sex life that none of us EVER wanted to know about.

I first looked at his blog just recently, and oh my.

The guns, the martial arts, and some of his writings were cool -- recently he's pushed it waaaay over the deep end.

The intent of a legal document and what the document actually says in writing are often different. This is what is meant by circumventing the intent.

ie the intent (afaik) of the GPL is that code protected under the GPL is always available upon request and any changes made to said code must be made available.

Therefore if you take a stock system like Linux and write your own proprietary software on top of it without changing any GPL'd Linux code you don't have to do anything.

How much of a hassle would it be to print a copy of the GPL in your manual and include a link to a copy of the Linux source you used?

    I think that's a very idealistic view.

If your NCA says that you're not allowed to work in your field for X number of years then what do you do?

    A) Work at McDonalds
    B) Work in a closely related field

You'll be making less money most likely and if you have a family that really might not be an option especially if your income is the only monetary support.

I don't think most here are saying that divulging trade secrets is something they do. Only that working at a competitor or in the same field doesn't mean that your former employer is in a position to lose.

Well...the answer to all of your questions is this: The American educational system is complete crap. We don't test knowledge or ability, we test how well you can do on a test. That makes _perfect_ sense if you're going to take exams for a living. I've noticed this mentality from all but one of my professors in college. They all claim to be testing knowledge or what we've learned. i.e. my spanish language exams are mostly multiple choice -- and you only have to know 3 words in a sentance to come up with the correct answer.

At least where I go to school Philosophy, Cognitive Science and Linguistics are very closely tied programs. The philosophy degree might not help you get a corporate programming job. Something you learn about in all three programs I mentioned before is hard logic, state theory, syntax. If you take the right courses you could really add some bang to your abilities. I really don't see how the MBA program was designed for CS grads. CS is not IS. I would never even consider and MBA because I would NEVER want to manage people. I would go for a Master in CS or Mathmatics(possibly another branch of science). Maybe go all the way to the PHD level and teach or do research. I just can't see going into a Science field and then warping yourself into a buisness bot.
