I don't believe the game complains about loosing focus using the official windower, but I don't know I've never used it. I might have to find out.

No one uses a mouse because the UI is such that it is either easier with a gamepad and keyboard or a keyboard only. I use a keyboard. I should have been clearer, no one in their right mind uses a mouse with FFXI.

Console users may try to play with just a game pad, but they will get a keyboard in very short order if they continue to play. There is an onscreen keyboard, but no one uses it.

Or put in a less inflammatory way, how preventing or slowing some P2P operations or otherwise using some QoS methods is going to cause any disastrous effect. Part of the problem I have in seeing it is I don't see the importance of the people having very high speed broadband.

    Apple did it.
Actually, Apple did not. 68k -> PPC, PPC ran the fast majority of 68k code, as much as was possible. Classic -> OS X, PPC OS X included both a compatibility API and Classic itself. PPC -> Intel, Apple allows you to run PPC code with out any user interaction. Apple provided a transition period of 8 years to get off of classic apps. They had similarly long runs for all their other transitions.

Solaris has binary compatibility all the way back to Solaris 7, or 8 I always get that one messed up. Giving your customers an ultimatum to upgrade or else only ever has one result, they don't upgrade.

Canada: 80% of the population lives within 300 miles of the US boarder.

There is a whole hell of a lot of Canada that has no one living there so no broadband has to be run there. US broadband is in very poor shape, but so is Canadas. The point you're arguing is like arguing who gets last and who gets next to last in a race. Both runners still lost.

Microsoft still holds a heavily dominant position in the O/S market and an equally dominant market position in the office applications market
Did it ever cross your mind that perhaps the market chose to give MS this position? Office is a very good product, there really isn't anything as good. Windows is a good OS, people know how to use it. Their Server products work well. There might be a reason people keep buying it.

One of those reasons is because alternatives pretty much suck. I'm in the position of trying to find a Sharepoint and preferably Exchange replacement and pretty much all the alternatives I've found are halfway done, or major features are 'on the roadmap' and have been for several years.

There is a slight difference between keeping a potential thief from doing anything and preventing a terrorist from doing something.

Burglars choose easy targets. CCTV and alarms make the target more difficult so most move on. Experienced thieves require more then just a sign to keep them away but still, they are for the most part looking for the easy target.

Terrorism is not a crime of opportunity. You can make the target appear as difficult as you want, all that does is make them plan a little more. The stupid restrictions at the airport do nothing to deter terrorists.
