Fine, can a company avoid paying a business license just because they 'couldn't afford it' when they start. Software licenses are as much a legal requirement as paying rent, getting the license and possible rezoning if you're working out of a residential area. Simply ignoring them because you're ok with breaking the law doesn't change that. Software licenses are not something that would be nice to do, it's something you are required to do to remain within the law.
from the beginning most companies just can't afford to go out and buy several licenses of software that goes anywhere from $50-$10,000.
Then they didn't have enough money to start their business in the first place. Software licenses are supposed to be a cost of doing business. Would it be ok to squat in an abandoned building because they couldn't afford rent when they started their company?
Using ms word and pressing the start button does not qualify as being computer literate
Neither does plugging things into the only slot they fit in or following prompts on a screen. Building a PC and installing an OS teaches you nothing. A PC when from a magical white box to a box made up of magical components but you still have no idea what they do. Installing Windows is the same prompt following that comprises installing any other piece of software, so you have still learnt nothing. Going through a procedure and ending up with having a much clue as you started with does not 'demystify the basic idea of computing for the vast majority of americans.'
Personally, I would pay for more then 384/128. As someone who is going to be moving to an area that has no options other then dialup, I hope this works out.
I run (and always have) my accounts as a member of the Power Users group since first using NT. Thats a few versions of Media Player and this requires Admin privileges is news to me, though it could just be some function of WMP that I don't use. So exactly what about WMP 'requires' administrator rights?
My guess though is PJ quoted it, mentioning that these were direct quotes from the referred blog. Are all these bloggers or are they just creating a link to what they are talking about while lifting large portions of the source and passing it off as their own interpretation, criticism or ideas?
Simply adding a citation does not make it impossible to plagiarize that same source.
Yes you're right, it's all Microsoft's fault that users click 'Yes' to every dialog box that pops up.
A lot of spyware did not install itself, the user purposely installed it. Users need more protection from themselves then they need protection from anything else.
Fine. Then check out the patched sources and start testing it.
The article is specifically about OSS developers and is just another instance of people using freely available and developed software believing that the developers owe them something. For OSS, developed as a hobby in the free time of its devs, committed to CVS is fixed unless you can show otherwise.
No one. Whether your ISP or VOIP service does or does not cooperate with three-letter agencies doesn't matter. Your traffic will go somewhere they can record. Then again, so do your cell calls and land line calls. In short if you're scared of these things, you should not be using any technology at all.
However completely unrelated to all that, personally you can take my POTS line from my cold, dead hands. I will never choose to use a VOIP product.
For one if something is perfect, by definition you can not get better then it.
However, as you probably know 20/20 in short means that you see something from 20 feet (or metres) away as if it was 20 feet (or metres) away, extending that 20/10 vision is seeing something from 20 feet away as if it was 10 feet away. At first that seems to be better but it's not because your perspective of things is off. You no longer see things as they are but magnified if you are looking right at it and out of proportion if its in your periphery vision. 20/10 vision means your eye is out of shape causing eye strain now and pretty much guaranteeing your sight will fail sooner then someone who has had an eye that properly shaped and worked as intended for most of their life.
The wiki article is mistaken because people do not take into account everything that is entailed with having imperfect sight. They simply regurgitate what they have heard as 'fact.' 20/10 is farsightedness, tell me would you ask for that?
The above poster didn't indicate that the poor eyesight was a trade off, they specifically asked for it leading me to believe they are among the many idiots in the world that think 20/10 eyesight is better then perfect.
Unless your case looks like this, I'm not going to be impressed.
Is Jack Thompson not doing enough recently to demonize games?

Ya because America was full of geniuses before the current administration.
That's what happens when the most important part of your 'academic' life is the Football team.
I love it! That is the best laugh I have had all day. Have them buy 3D Realms and it will be the joke of the year.
March 2006: Scott Miller, CEO of 3D Realms, announced that the company intends on developing a sequel to Duke Nukem Forever.
The same way they did in 1905.
but seriously, why the hell is this story up on Slashdot, let alone the front page?
I found it funny.
I don't care about the red ones, I want the Orange ones that tasted good.

No it doesn't, just as the Roadrunner.
Does it work with the iPod? MS doesn't have a monopoly here.

No word on if they have habitable moons, or monoliths yet.
Whats with the poor, premature reporting these days?
But the other cellular providers can't beat the quality of a wired cell service.

Why would you order a child with imperfect vision?
