Big changes used to be put into a devel branch, but they decided to screw with a good thing. Its up to distros to stablize the kernel now so I guess LFS people are out of luck.
I believe power and heat issues are more of a problem with blade setups then they are for 1u and up servers in datacenters that weren't intended to house blades.
I know it sucks. Seriously, when will every database ventor create a seprate product that was made for something completely different to act as a front end to a database? How can a database admin be expected to use SQL, or an application developer be expected to create an application to access and use the data.
Windows 'became' stable because they switched from 9x to NT and Microsoft wanted to compete with the big boys, ie Real Unix. Windows was stable and usable for a large number of things before Linux was. Linux hasn't been a contender long enough to alter Windows. For Longhorn however, that will be a different thing.
Ya, look how much alteration and Irix knowhow that took. Do you really think a vanilla kernel from www.kernel.org will run on a 256 processor Altix? On the other hand, I can download Solaris 10 and run it on my Ultra10 then use that same install disk with no other changes and bring up an E15K. Linux can't do that.
OpenBSD is, yet the fact the admin has to go and install extra things and actually configure services to run causes more people to whine that OpenBSD is too hard to use. People, including the vast number of admins, don't want a 'secure by default' installation, they want a system that just runs without much thought. Using Linux for that lets them delude themselves into thinking its secure on the based on the fact that its open source and not Windows.
VMWare can also use raw disk partitions. In fact if you do it right, you could even boot to that device, and then boot into your other OS and access it from VMWare.
Why would it. Depending on what you believe, it was either written by some primitive people or given to people on this planet relating to things on this planet.
That said, no, finding life on other planets would also not mean there is no God or that the bible is false. The ramifications for reasonable people would be very little, but there are plenty of nutcases, religious people and athiests, that will tell you otherwise.

You must be behind on some kernel patches.
I hate all that crap on the side. It makes it impossible to have a small chat window as you work.
You make it sound like its shocking that they don't know what it runs, but most people running computers don't know what software its running.
Then why is it that they couldnt't get it to work as well as VMS?
I must be special since I can run perl and Excel on Windows.
When was the last time your manager asked for best practices instead of dictating them?
"You win again gravity!"

So blades would not be a no brainer.

You don't have multiple arch's at home?
Clippy.

PL/SQL is not portable, nor would it require you to get an F.
