    Hushmail was the first and obvious choice when I read the headline, but you mentioned that it doesn't work well under linux??? What's up with that? I believe it uses java. (to lazy to check) Do you not know how to install the java plugin under mozilla/netscape/konqueror?

    I won Rackspace's 'ThinkGeek' Contest last year and won something like $300 in certificates. (I can't remember exactly $200-$500. I'm too tired to do the math)

    Anyways, it bought be about 18 t-shirts and I only wear two of them. The rest are in my closet.

    I agree.

    But would you waste your time and do that at home with 5 2Gb drives when you can buy 3 40Gb ones and call it a day? I must have been busy that week, so I just forked out the cash.

    Why would I spend time making a small redundant storage repository which I know parts of will fail, when I can drop $50 on a single new drive whose size is greater than all the old ones combined? I think it's worth it. For my configuration, I have started to download (and eventually burn) a lot of movies, so I find the extra Gigs extremely usefull. btw, it's also an all-ide setup. I'm not up for fooling around with raid at home. Cheap and Easy is my motto for home. Expensive and Sophisticated is what I tell/sell my clients, so THAT's where I want to be spending my time.

    Here's my 2 cents:

    I was in pretty much the same boat as you, but I picked up a couple new 60Gb-ers. I thought about combining them using MS's DFS, but then the drives started failing on me one-by-one.

    I recommend you do the same. I mean ask yourself: Do I really want to trust my porn collection to a 6-year-old 2Gb drive? NO!!

    Hardware's Cheap. Use Wisely.

    Would it not have been better to build something up, not out? With all the work that was put into this, IMHO, I would think that if it was for water, it would be better to use your time to start stacking rocks up, even if it's into one large pile (per site). This way if you're stumbling across the desert you would be able to see the marker from a farther distance.

    Maybe I'm just old-fashioned (probably not as old as YOU, but I grew up reading conspiracy and UFO files on bbs') but I still like the idea of the images being signs to aliens. ...Really. I mean, check out 'The Owl Man'. Does that not look like our friend Mr Aldrin? (hehe. Buzz=funny name. Like my friend 'Shitter'. I'll never figure that one out.)

    In any case, I'll stick with my alien conspiracy.

    On a side note, isn't Atlantis recently being 'proven' to be located in South America too? ...And the plot thickens. (Don't get me started on 'the money changers' hehe)

    Does this remind anyone of the Popular Science articles where Planes may someday make transatlantic flights and In the 70's, automobiles will be obsolete, as personal gyrocopters will likely be the main method of transportaion.

    Hell, I propose that in 2008, my shoelace-tying machine will be run off of a 3Ghz processor.

    I'm not trying to bring down this article, as much as I'm bringing to light the humour behind the title.

    I live in Whistler, BC, Canada (Home of the namesakes Whistler/Blackcomb/Longhorn) and it gets DAMN cold, but my heater in my room is constantly off and my equipment heats it to above room temperature throughout the year. In the summer I even have to keep my window cranked open (2 1/2' x 3') I think I'm turning deaf because of the noise, but I only seem to use my hearing for answering phones, and I don't even like doing that.

    I can't hear a damn thing. My room's right next to the kitchen and I have 5 non-geek roomates. They're allways walking past my room and hearing a "hhhHHHHUUUUUUUUUMMMMMmmmm" coming from inside the door, but to tell you the truth, I don't really notice it any more. /rant

    What the hell is the article talking about?

    Someone explain this to me. I haven't used pgp in years and even then, it was just me and 3 buddies.

    Is the use of keys so widespread that people need to meet to identify themselves? If 300 people 'know' each other on-line, then why the hell do they need to meet to exchange keys? You'd think you could trust that anonymous person you've been chatting to for 3 years.

    Again, I may have blown this out of perspective, but what the hell if this talking about?

    I work at an ISP and we have a limit of 5 Megs.

    The problem is, other isps in our area have a limit of 2, 5, and 20 Megs. I too personally hate receiving anything over 1Mb, yet some of our dialup customers consistantly receive files 3-5Mbs and it takes some time for them to receive them. I am a purist, so whenever I get a call regarding email, my first response is to tell the customer to go into their Webmail which we offer as a supplement to pop & imap and DELETE the offending message. We also have a 20Mb limit on the server per account. ARGHH!! just mod me as underrated because this topic causes me grief. Why don't people just use FTP? It STANDS for file transfer protocol! USE IT!! I say everybody goes back to shell accounts over dialup. Broadband pisses me off.

    Yup. I've never used OpenBSD before, but I pre-ordered my cd when ./ last posted that this release was coming out of beta.

    If all else fails, I'l lgo back to Win2K Advanced Server and I'll have some fancy blowfish stickers.
