habit. I had no idea I did so many awkward gestures with my hands while reading web pages [instert persian kitty joke here], but after installing mouse gestures for Mozilla, my subconscious twitching became very apparent to me. It's just not what I wanted. I am aware that I could have changed my modifierkey, etc. but it wasn't worth it. I find that with an optical mouse (with a scroll button), I can navigate fast enough that I didn't require mouse gestures to provide me with shortcuts.

If you like and use gestures, then kudos, but it was just plain awkward. albeit it will get easier after I use it for a while and don't have to think about moving the mouse in a certain way, I'm fine the way I am right now.

    Sincerely,

    Me.

I've tried the mouse gestures for Moz and loved it. .... for the first two minutes!!!!!

I can't tell you how many times I had about 6 tabs open and then mozilla shits itself and closes. The 'gesture' for closign a window was WAY to normal for me. Same with going back, or scrolling, or flipping through tabs or.... ANYTHING! I never realized how often I moved the mouse while browzing. I hold my place with the mouse pointer, and I follow through long lines of code with the pointer. If you do this too, then DON'T USE GESTURES!!

Instead, call it a "Client-side SAN", or my favorite: "Internal Email Network over Windows-Induced File-Transfer-Mechanisms" (or IENWIFTM) the 'email' label gives it a freindly name.

Oh yah, and next time you get caught doing this, have your BOFH calendar handy. (This calendar gave me "Domain Controller not responding". 15. Re:Cars and Planes? on Walk-Thru Virtual Environment · · Score: 2, Insightful

The problem with this idea, is that naturally-occuring fog is 3-d (the depth is roughly the same size as the height and width) This 'machine' produces fog which, ideally, is only a centimeter or two thick, and dense enough to reflect light efficently.

With naturally occuring fog, if you had (for instance) a projector that projects an image of the road into the fog, it would be VERY unreliable as the light would reflect back well in one section, but not be reflected back in another. Yo umay think this is fine, as if no light gets reflected, you can see the road, right? Wrong. It is like watching an old 8mm being projected onto CmdrTaco's fat back, it would be distorted in most areas, and you can't see the part of the screen that shines outside his love handles. With projecting onto natural fog, it's VERY inconsitent. - Try this with a 'Batman' template and a good Maglite flashlight one night in the bathroom (with a hot shower running)

The other point I wanted to mention, is that the reason airports get shut down and you have a problem is because of the 'reflecting' nature of fog. If, for some miraculous reason, you were to project an image onto the road (or FROM the road in an airplane's case), and it was visible to the driver/pilot, the vehicle you were controling would have to shut ALL forward-pointing lights off, otherwise, the projected image won't show up. If you want proof, then make your own 'walk-thru wall' and shine a bright light at the image you are viewing. What do you see? NOTHING. (except for fog)

I didn't mean to criticize, but I wish we could make driving and flying safer because of this 'discovery', but alas we cannot. Not yet.

I know this should really be an "Ask Slashdot" question, but I am _really_ interested in learning how to admin OpenBSD systems, and I am having a hard time trying to find books and websites aimed for beginners. Here is my question:

Any good (Open)BSD books on the shelves?

I am currently a sysadmin/netadmin/sys-support guy for a (really) small isp/hsoting company. Our boxes are a mixture of NT/W2K and I'm looking into operating systems for our new servers whenever they arrive. I feel adequate running a linux distro such as Slackware as a new web server, but I would love to put up a *bsd box. (As well as run mySQL, radius, ids[snort], on *nix flavours, as opposed to MS)

I've played with Linux for about 5 years, but not consistently until this past year, where I ran Apache under Mandrake for a websrever for my friends and I (that didn't last long), as well as installed Slack 8.0 on an old p133 for a router/firewall and Slack 8.0 on my laptop. I'm not 100% fluent in *nix scripting and such, but I'm trying really hard to become less reliant on Windows. Both at home (desktop) and at work (servers). Back to my question, now that I can pull my weight with Linux, what is the best way to teach myself more OpenBSD? I've tried using it on a couple of different occasions, but I found the command names and devices so.. so... cryptic(?) to me. I have extra boxes to play on (including two new Celerons 1.3's) at home, but my spare time is almost non-existent, so I'd rather have a book I can read on the shitter or before I go to bed.

    Any ideas are GREATLY appreciated.

(I haven't looked into this for about 6 months, but this slashdot article renewed my appreciation and lust for OpenBSD. There may have been kick-ass books and websites written within the past 6 months that deal with BSD administration, but like I said, I'm really busy and my time is tight, so even if you have a pointer that seems obvious to you, please post it up.)

    Submit/Preview?? I'll take Submit.
