True! The reason we are prone to be infected and killed by enumerable organism on earth is that we share the evolution with them. We are competitors in the same system. Unless there is some higher lifeforms on mars we are not in emidiate danger (I think).
On the other hand will a contamination with earthly germ on mars be a major drawback for science.
To me its simply part of the internet. I use the same two or three passwords on most webpages and let my Opera browser remember them for me. I am not sure if I want a encrypted signature on slashdot for example.
For banktransactions, public data etc. we have in my country a state financed digital signature, but it is still in its infancy and has had a lot of problems (The good thing about it is that is can be used with all OS and all browsers, the bad thing is I have never been getting it to work). I don't know about PGP is mature enough to realy work, but for me it does not belong on slashdot.
Now they made the headlines. It is only after you have come out with a flawed study, pointing in some direction interesting to the goverment or the industry, that you get funding to do the studies right..
How many times have we, in the press, heard that somebody has proved something, only to find out that the real study only indicates that it could be the case, and that the scientists need more money to complete the study..
There is in Europe right now some sympathetic attention on the political level in many contries. The Irish leaderships proposal could fall if Poland is voting against as they have resently said they would.
I think that the timing of this appeal has something to do with the current situation. The Directive is to be voted on soon
How about spending a little less time talking about how great the alternative browsers are, and how much better it would be if more sites supported them properly, and a little more time actually working towards that?
I agree that sites using IE street code is one of the biggest problems for the new browsers and that no ekstra features is going to help turning over the tide. When I have recommended Oprea or Firefox to freind they always complain about not being able to see certain pages.
In Denmark, seven websites was given a prize for being the best public pages. Most of them was only made for IE. In Opera and Firefox I coulden't see menus etc. They were furthermore critiziced for not being accessible to blind and partially sighted.
Unfortunatly most webadmins I have complained to think that it is my own fault.
The whole problem is that software today has reached a stance where most users can use old software for most work situations. They don't need small software companys, they don't even really need the big ones. The big corporations are trying very hard to create a need that is simply not there.
The GPL'ed software only showed up at a time when word-processors, image manipulation, web tools etc. had all the features you need to get the job done.
As I see it the lone coders problem is not the GPL, but the technological development and the globalisation. It is typical that GPL is applied to programs that can be created by a single or very few programmers. We are still to see a GPL 3d program like Maya. That is why most coders, yourself included, have to make GPL software. The money is no longer in programs that can be written by one person.
The vietnamese army seems to RULE!
What was it again.. Has mandrakesoft declared the third world war or was it The Bush administration? How is Stallman and fox news involved? Why havent anybody mentioned the yellow threat from china and india?
Try reading Byrons Don Juan. Art can be about art and be political at the same time.. and The Cannes festival has not been perverted, if you want to blame somebody for this, blame Quentin Tarantino. He and his jury made the decision.
The sheer mentioning of India or China seems to make the average american slashdot tech rave like a white trash untermensh, that has resently been analprobed by the UFO.. What is it with you guys? Try to control your paranoia.

With that much angst, I can understand why you dont't go to India.

"Why not simply use the standard browser?"
We do have a cowboy in office, don't we?
No not really. He's all hat and no cattle!
They drink mostly coffee. I am afraid you confuse them with another exotic ethnic group.
Thats too bad. I think we, as consumers, have a right to be buttfucked the same way windows users are.

This is more like Steven Spielberg making Godfather Part IV.
