"No" is not the answer, Paul is. He correctly predicted the outcome of all of Germany's games so far, whichi is pretty impressive, considering Germany's loss to Serbia.
Of course, Paul is an octopus who picks the winning side by choosing the box with the winning side's flag on it.
>... it's a bold leap forward in display technology that deserves to be highlighted.
No it's not. It's a slight increase in pixel density over existing displays, but it's not in any way bold or a leap. The only way this is even notable is because the iphone got by with a substandard display for so long, so of course compared that, this is a noticeable increase.
I was always meaning to ask somebody about this situation. How do you keep your bear from destroying the basement? I can get mine to stay calm for a while, but eventually it gets pissed off and goes berserk on anything that happened to be in there. Once it even managed to get upstairs and ransack through the kitchen, eating everything I had prepared for dinner. Needless to say, it's a huge pain in the ass and I'm considering some drastic actions at this point, so any tips would be appreciated. TIA
I find it interesting that people on such supposedly tech-savvy place like slashdot have so much trouble understanding the fundamental issues involved with this.
Anyway, I'm not going to go into full rant mode, I just want to say that the network I used to connect from home does pretty much exactly what you suggest. The standard rate was 1650/825, and once you go over 200MB withing a short period of time, you'd be dropped to 70% of that, and 50% after another 200MB or so. If you laid off the torrenting for 30-60 minutes, you'd be back at full speed. I didn't particularly like this method since I'd get all excited about something that will finish downloading in 15 minutes, only to have my speed halved and have to wait so much longer. Still, I think this is a rather effective method.
Many ISPs here (used to?) do something similar, but they usually only do this once per month, so if you go over on the 15th, you're fucked until everything gets reset on the 1st, for example. One thing I still haven't seem widely implemented everywhere is having higher caps/lower prices for night time, as the night-time low is roughly 4-4.5 times lower than the daily peak.
No, they already approved the app, and now that the developers have spent resources on creating several more versions, they are going to ban it from the appstore. Or at least that's what the story claims, I don't have i-anything so I can't check it myself.
You should be able to update the Hero to 2.1 from the HTC site, and seeing how 2.2 was officially announced just a few weeks ago, I don't see what you're complaining about.
Well the only thing a WM phone displays that could be potentially sensitive are the upcoming appointments, and you can disable those. I don't think the number of new emails can be in any way sensitive information in all but the most contrived circumstances. Unlike the iphone, which (used to, I think?) display the text of incoming messages for all to see, whether it was locked or not.
Speaking of the iphone, I actually laughed for a few minutes straight when I played with one for the first time and realized that the home screen where you get dropped all the time is just a bunch of application icons. So yeah, don't do that.
HTC used to put something like this on some of their phones. Here's a demo with a circular scroll thing that is used for zooming, but of course could be used to scroll just as well. I'm pretty sure I saw a device with a thing, straight strip as well, but I'm not sure what it was. I dunno why they stopped making these:(
Movies that cost $200M (and more, much more), are greenlighted all the time, bomb at the box office, die in the dustbins of discount DVDs, still don't recover their budgetary costs, and yet that doesn't stop more from being made. Does it?
These movies are subsidized by the studios through those that are profitable, so I'm not sure how this is similar to dresses at all.
Which leads to the question: Why do movies that cost millions to make generally suck the most?
They do? Sure, there are plenty expensive movies that are terrible, but have you seen most of the cheap movies? They're just as bad if not worse.
Look at some of the most successful, highest grossing movies of the last 15 years and I think you'll see more that were made on relatively small budgets (Blair Witch Project being the poster child, but there are others) than you will Summer Blockbusters. My Big Fat Greek Wedding was turned down for production by all the major studios until Playtone picked it up, dropped it in the can for $5M and to date it's grossed $369M worldwide.
The highest grossing movies are, with maybe a few exceptions, also the most expensive movies to make. Avatar, Titanic, and the Dark Knight come to mind. Movies like the Blair Witch Project do have a great return on investment though.
I do agree with your main point about protectionism, the above just bothered me.
That's not true, in most countries, including the US I think, the copyright can start from the date of creation as well, depending on circumstances. To prove something like this, you could mail the work to yourself, and use the post's stamps for date verification, for example.
>- will there be a single feature that iPad doesn't have? (iPad already has cheap USB and SD card accessories and will likely have a video cam accessory by October)
Real and useful multitasking. The cheap USB and SD card accessories suck by the virtue of being accessories, and having to plug in a webcam in such a portable device is even more ridiculous considering how cheap and easy it is to integrate one into a phone, not to mention a much larger tablet.
- why wouldn't this just be iPod versus Zune all over again?
Seeing how the Zunes are considered to be as good as, if not better, than ipods, I'd be happy with this outcome. However, if anybody could guarantee that one product will outsell another before it is even released, they'd be richer than Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and that Ikea guy combined.
I recall reading somewhere that there are quite a few American laws that (are supposed to) apply to all US citizens, even when under another country's jurisdiction. I think there might be something about doing business with "bad" countries, kiddie fucking, etc. Some examples that come to mind could be buying Cuban cigars, or going to Thailand and having sex with somebody who would be considered underage in the US, and then getting busted for it upon return. Don't quote me on this though, as I didn't investigate this too deeply, not being a US citizen and all.
So from 1990 to 2002 cancer rates decreased slightly, while cellphone usage increased significantly? It looks like cellphones are actually a cure for cancer!
I'd say that if Adobe had done the right thing, and made Flash better (efficient, stable), and ported *that* to Android instead of putting effort into trying to work around Apple's position on Flash, they'd have made a *far* better case for Apple eating humble pie and asking Adobe to implement this mythical excellent Flash environment for the iPhone. But they didn't. br Simon
Well it's a good thing Adobe has some people who are as smart as you are then, since this is exactly what they did! Have a look at this video of Flash running pretty fucking well on the N1.
Because the TrackPoint is much more convenient since it's placed where your fingers already are, as opposed to the ridiculously huge apple trackpad which requires much more hand/finger movement.

It is awesome, but I'm really waiting until they can cure masturbation-induced blindness.
Also as a Ukrainian (at least, Ukrainian born), I'm proud of the choice most would choose when faced with an oppressive, corrupt government.

If it weren't for lawyers, it would've never been illegal for them to marry in the first place.
>Funny but I thought the UK was part of Europe.
Well, you were wrong.
It's confirmed, The Internet Makes You Stupid.

Fake! The real SJ would be completely unapologetic about it.
Not to mention that his post would contain a clear signature indicating whether he submitted it from his iphone.

Good movies still make money even if a few people downloaded them.
The SLS AMG uses this method. Of course, there's a video of it available.

Anyhow, in this case the work is in public domain, since unpublished and unregistered works get life of author + 70 years.

No, they are a third option - an accurate description of the real situation.

Your tongue isn't long enough to allow you to see the screen while touching the trackpoint? No wonder you're having all these kinds of issues.
