    Ah, I see. Yeah, the stunt itself was pretty blatant and lame. I don't have a problem with the folks who say that it was inappropriate. I'm just tired of the "the children will be ruined" crap we've been hearing for so long now.

    I'm just mad she didn't do it 10 years ago. She was prettier before she had all that work done trying to look young...

    I assume that you are a more conservative person than I. While I respect your right to feel whatever you like:

    1) Kids see nudity. Whether it's walking in on mommy and daddy in bed, a parent changing, whatever.... unless an adult freaks out about it, it's generally not a big deal. Worst case, they might ask some questions about anatomy that they'll need to know the answers to anyway.

    2) "being offended" is really your decision. Another person can't offend you. (for example, A friend might jokingly say "Hey, asshole" and I'd laugh. A stranger does it and I might get mad. The reaction is MINE, not the speakers.

    3) Honestly, it's a complicated and rough world. Perhaps if kids weren't shielded from it as much they would be more well adjusted. As it is, people lose their minds over a breast. God forbid we have 6 billion of them on the planet...

    I do recall something about Europe being fairly affected... wasn't there a photo of the Eiffel tower in ruins or something?

    On a side note, I've always been amused that the martians landed 3 miles east of my childhood home (the city was mostly a ranch then), and then proceeded west to LA. My town (as it were) was the first to get killed!

    Out of curiousity... how does that work? Does an error message (say, "file not found") point to message #XXX, which is then just referenced in the language specific file? Is it that simple?

    Sounds like a 2010 reference to me (in the book, not the movie, a Chinese expedition landed on Europa to refuel with water -- I forget the exact propulsion method -- and a giant plantish something was attracted to the ship and crushed it. The passage where the lone survivor was sending his account out into space as his oxygen ran out was chilling...

    Well, sure... if element half-lives can be switched on arbitrarily. fossils planted, etc. Fails the Occams Razor test, tho.

    Assuming that a god set up the world to be effectively deceptive isn't a testible assumption, and thus a patently BAD theory.

    Believe what you like, but please don't try to warp science to support mythology.

    Eventually common use supercedes dictionary definitions. Yeah, people use "trolling" when they mean "trawling", as in fish. Somehow, the confusion between someone looking for an angry response and the lives-under-a-bridge-troll seems appropriate, however.

    Yup. There are many industries (magazines, cosmetics, surgery, etc.) devoted to making women feel ugly. Sad, really. Given a woman who is comfortable with her age wearing little/no makeup and a smile, vs. someone buried under makeup and scars trying to look 19, I'll take the former any day.

    This country is prudish in the best of times, and is really bad about it right now. Out current bible-thumping president doesn't help matters any.

    To respond to a point you made... the halftime in question was shown around 5PM-8PM (west coast and east coast, respectively), too early for the kids to be asleep.

    And so far as I know, the only time the word fuck has been allowed on broadcast TV (with advance knowledge) was when playing videos of firemen during the attacks on the WTC. These videos were shown months later with warnings about the language.

    Cable can show whatever they like, although the uncensored South Park movie isn't shown until 1am.

    Awesome. I really must find out how he's managed to develop an encryption algorythm which is already understood by every browser including Netscape 1.1N but which is completely uncrackable by human beings!

    I've seen some pages that appear to be regular text, but are written by some godawful series of obfuscating javascript functions... If you're good enough you could decode it, but it's hard. Kinda a waste of time... if I wanted your design, I could use MSIE's "save html complete" and get an approximate code snapshot... or just code from scratch, it's not that hard.

    Nothing wrong with being Christian, no. Just be aware that the geek crowd (myself included) tends away from "traditional" religious groups. It's a combination of being very logical, and rebellious, I think.

    If you point out your religion, some yahoo here will take a cheap shot just because they are anonymous and can. Sucks, but 'tis the truth.
