Really digging it so far... Just now sure how you can compare membership rates. College kid starting a site and letting it grow through exclusivity vs the internet's biggest presence sliding over users from their other services. Don't get me wrong, they are interesting metrics... just not that comparable in my mind.
The main complaint is that he was asking for donations to fight this, and then more or less bailed on the fight. That's the only valid complaint in my opinion, then again, we don't know if and how much money was raised. It pays to be wary of donating to a legal defense fund, you can't be certain it will be spent the way you want it to be spent.
Agreed. Whether it was a good move on his part or not, it doesn't matter when it comes to the donations scenario. He implicitly collected donations to fight Sony, and then discontinued the fight. Would we do it too? Probably. But that is not the point. If I paid seeded X amount of money to you to sail across the world and then you stopped part way because the outcome looked bleak, I would all or some of my money back. Hopefully it does get passed on to the EFF.
it's assumed that he is going to donate remaining legal funds to the EFF
Assumptions are always dangerous, especially when a lot of money is involved. Will he donate all of it, some of it, of none of it? We'll likely never have anything better than his word on what he did with the money. And that has an even more damning effect on these sorts of cases in the future, since people will be much more reluctant to donate to someone else's case after this guy sold out and took the money (even if it's just some of the money, even if it's just *allegations* that he pocketed some of the money).
Well we can always hope that the EFF would share information as to whether these donation claims are factual or not down the road.
Robert S. Mueller, III just poked you. Poke him back?
Robert S. Mueller, III tagged you in a photo. (picture of you sitting at your computer right now)
Good point. And with what I've read about the E3 showing and their apparent lack of desire to really make any more real games for the console maybe this would actually be a good angle to keep their sales going.
I guess it is time to dust off the ol wii again.
granted the video resolution stuff can be a bit daunting for some based on browsing through some of the linux on ps3 forums and the number of video mode problem posts. But that is what has always made me have a special place for sony consoles in my heart...i think i use my ps3 for multimedia pc purposes 10:1 over gaming.
Yeah, I mean that is the thing. Nintendo patches are kinda irrelevant in the long run as people often release workarounds within 24hours and/or backporting methods. This has seemed to be the trend for most of these console hacks of recent.
I may be wrong, but I believe the twilight princess hack has already been officially patched but remember reading that you can revert. So I guess technically this is already patched. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm going to stray from the more serious GPL talks and just throw in my initial reaction. I'm not sure how games are programmed but if the source is released wouldn't it be pretty awesome to see ICO mods surface. I was a pretty big fan of the game (and Shadow of the Colossus) and a mod of the game could be really fun!
Yeah I agree as well... could also try monowall. I have been using monowall for a network of about a 15 or so machines and have had great success so far (over a year or so).
As for the configuration, can easily be had by way of the gui just like smoothwall, and allows for access of a command line for more advanced configuration need be. And lastly, I have found the mailing list to be extremely helpful and one of the most prompt in terms of responses to questions and comments. Definitely worth a shot as it will cost next to nothing.
I have a few pre-pentium oem hdds that are still functional...of course I don't rely on any server critical information being on them...but i always have them working for something. (backup copy #3...sample os installs...etc)
also went through my hdd collection on the desk and found a Conner FLBC4M4 drive in there...not sure on the age/condition but I'm pretty sure that one was still working as well last time i pulled it out of another pre-pentium box.
I agree with your sentiments...however,
I remember reading in my ISP contract [comcast] that offering connections for others outside of my billing address was considered a breach of contract and terms for termination. Maybe this is not a constant among all other ISPs, but it seems that comcast, at least, is pretty clear that running an open network is not acceptable terms of use. Sucks...yes, but I guess I take it as the same as letting a neighbor splice off your cable connection...definetly not cool with the provider!
NYPD just tagged you in a photo.
How are group setups all that different from g+ circles? Not being argumentative, but rather, curious....
So is most of the internet these days.
Debbie downer....
Could be, but I don't believe even Wave ever had this much hype/excitement in the community or even membership.
EDIT: I guess I should say, "the google vs facebook rate" comparisons.

we all get to enjoy movies again? Wait... that didn't happen much before the SHB (super hero bubble) either.

In before the we're sued.

If I hadn't used so much Zicam Cold Remedy I would say this smells fishy.
That's it....I'm switching to IE!

"or he left the actual vulnerability there on purpose." --friends on the inside? That would be quite awesome!

I agree. For me this is same with those fancy cover art viewers. They are fun and all, but really slow to find things.
