Yeah I'm fairly certain JJ noticed this and is playing it up. It wasn't until next gen and later voyager that we see equality TRULY take hold in star fleet. I even see DS9 as a transition between the two, the idea that women can be soldiers and fight as hard as any man on the station. Next Gen was still very much in the lip-service to equality phase....
Again, more of an element that Star Trek reflects more of current culture than some imaginary future culture.
The facts on healthcare costs are just not with you in this one. Insurance increases price pressures by more than 100% over government run healthcare. Look up what it costs to deliver equivalent care around the world.
I'm sure you're a big fan of education and municipal funding too.
Insurance is privatized "optional" socialism (is health insurance, REALLY optional?) Government socialism is public socialism.
Which one would you rather have? Certain things make more sense to be socialized- the question is do you trust shareholders voting against you, or someone voting against you you can vote out to dispense the service. Clearly the best answer in this dillema is a public model.
Its not just straight up math, its pretty damn logical too. I'm sure though, when you're dying (hint everyone gets sick and dies, everyone needs an education, and everyone needs protection from fire and police, even if they think they don't) in a hospice somewhere you will wish you had public insurance.
I have to agree with this, I actually see VERY LITTLE evidence of a splice of three "different" images.
What is very possible, is three copies of the same image where spliced and lighting adjustment was performed on three splices separately. This is done for masking purposes, or situations of convenience.
I believe in fact, this is what the photographer claims and I find the analysis of the pixel changes and shadows consistent with this.
Pulled myself out of the gutter. Wasn't rich but had a roof- family was divorced in to gutter. Thanks Family Court. Mom Broke, Dad Broke.
Couldn't have done it without:
1) Employment insurance 2) Robust secondary education system 3) Subsidized housing (80%) 4) Fuck-ton of luck. (see 2 and 3).
I didn't take any student loans, or carry debt load > 5k at any given time. Still needed a ton of help, some of which many people just don't receive for a variety of unfortunate and perplexing reasons (many caused by the attitudes of people such as yourself).
Basically, while I find your story similarly inspiring, I also find you a vapid self-centered moron.
Steak Tartare is scary to about 99% of the population.
What they don't realize (and you don't seem to either), is the reason it is acceptable and safe is because it is a steak (unexposed), ground and served immediately. The grinder is cleaned fully after preparation.
Tartare is not stored and comes from steak to your plate. You would never do this with pre-prepared beef.
I know/. thinks this is funny, but some communities still use carried pigeons + USB sticks because it offers far superior bandwidth to what is available.
To someone upset about the US government collecting taxes to fund social programs, like Medicare, it makes perfect sense to compare them to "socialist" "tax and spend" economies like Canada, Europe, and other western social democracies.
Think of how much retail tax revenue they've lost over the course of this tax holiday. Brick and Mortar stores are being hurt by places like amazon, and free shipping from China.
The time to tax online is now, which will definitely improve revenue.
I'm not convinced. Let's think back to a similar event in American history, the Atlanta Olympic bombings in 1996.
I'm fairly certain the anti-abortionist perpetrator was called a 'terrorist'. He was white, Christian and didn't have a screw loose in the clinical sense. He had a poltical motive. It is lack of mental illness + motive which equals terrorism.
Ok Take a Picture.
For actual emergencies, almost zero. here's a snapshot of my run ins with Canadian Healthcare in the last 2 months:
Accute Lukemia? My friend in chemo next day.
Sudden Brain Aneurism? Friend in surgery that afternoon.
Actually for those who are confused by all the hand having, the comment is rather insightful.
me too, this whole idea is bs.

>everyone needs protection from fire and police,
not what I meant clearly, but some places you do need protection from the police apparently :D

Only a CIO would ask what color the box an IBM machine came in.
Didn't they develop Triple-play?
Darkroom vs photoshop. Most of this is ignorance as to how much our images are manipulated in all cases.

I know my 3 year old is certainly inspired. Thanks Chris!

Hey guys, did you hear? Anonymous Coward is a vegan!
To be fair google.com usb carrier pigeon is more key strokes than chevron, copy&paste + Bullshit.

yes but they added USB 2.0 support in SE- a killer, must have feature.
Just an FYI G+ is not failing but growing. Fast.
You are creating a false dichtomy.

Death panels? We mean HAPPY PANELS!

How can NOT ONE PERSON talk about this in the whole muslim = terrorism debate?
Sandy Hook : Not terrorism, mentally ill
Jared Loughner: Not terrorism, metnally ill
James Holmes: Not terrorism, mentally ill
Oklahoma: Domestic Terrorism, political motive
Boston: Domestic Terrorism political motive
Atlanta 1996: Domestic terrorism, political motive.
Absolutely true, but I don't see this being resolved.
