  1. It's the content (the music) that drives the sales on CD Sales Continue To Plummet, Vinyl Records Soar · · Score: 1

Look past the Vinyl vs. CD quality debate and think about the music. The upswing in vinyl sales has much to do with back catalog. Older folks are probably more likely to look for a Hendrix LP re-issue than many of the newer artists. The indie scene's attraction to vinyl is another thing. Great music with great packaging. I imagine the new pop music coming out is less attractive than it once was, which is why the poor CD sales (for pop music). Back catalog (Black Sabbath, Velvet Underground, Led Zeppelin) is great music which is really attractive with deluxe LP packaging.

  8. How does a download become a class issue? on Apple in Talks with Wal-Mart over Movies · · Score: 1

  9. This is about access to sales on Apple in Talks with Wal-Mart over Movies · · Score: 2, Interesting

Apple is blocked from selling movies from major studios (minus Disney because Steve owns shares). Wal-Mart sells 40% of the movie industry's DVDs. When they shook the table, the industry sat on their hands. A deal between Apple and Wal-Mart is a deal BETWEEN devils. Believe me, if Apple had the leverage that Wal-Mart did, they would employ the same tactics. Look at DRM and the .99 cent song. If people don't like it they should continue to rent DVDs or buy them. This parnership marks a new way of doing business. Now that Apple can sell the movies online, the door is open to other online suppliers like AT&T, Comcast and Amazon.com. Microsoft will shuffle in the door late as usual.

  10. Hardly appropriate on Apple in Talks with Wal-Mart over Movies · · Score: 3, Insightful

Job's balls have nothing to do with this issue. Wal-Mart sells 40% of the DVD's from Hollywood. The comapny has threatened the movie studios and so far they are not willing to work with Apple. The new move by Wal-Mart shows that they are an extortion racket. They are also the bigger player. Apple does not have the upper hand. And you should also consider that Wal-Mart can launch its own service. They do not need Apple.

Elitist PeeCee users and MS fanboys who think their platform of choice is superior simply because there are more of them or because they paid less, deserve the negative side effects that come from those assumptions. Mainly in the form of virii and other forms of malware.
I haven't seen one PC user on this board defending Microsoft. Most use linux. And not one person thinks their choice is superior because they paid less. I use Windows at work because I have to, and Linux at home. My choice has nothing to do with money and I certainly don't feel superior to anyone. When the first big viruses hit Mac OS this silly argument will be null.

For profit software is created with a big motivation. People tend to jump higher when they are paid. Open Office is very similar to Microsoft Office.
