Not so much a case for Apple, the iPod follows the guidelines for maximum volume output. For example, when it was discovered that the iPod didn't qualify for the European specification (it was off a few db) Apple released a patch for the iPod to lower it's maximum volume output.
Yea, this "feature" sucks like hell - when I'm riding the underground I can't listen to my iPod because the volume is too low. And with the 4th gen iPods the only way to get past the volume cap is to flash it with a US firmware und lose the warranty.
The problem with permafrost thawing is not only its heat absoption. Permafrost stores vast amounts of methane which is the worst greenhouse gas. Imagine doubling the output of greenhouse gases!
You could pin a small note beside the toilet. I've been told and I know from experience that when you read text in your dreams it's never the same. Read the note twice and if it's the same text, you're awake.
Xcode is delivered with every boxed version of Mac OS X. You can also join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC) for free and download it or have it shipped to you for just 20$
There is also a theory that some jewish sect was so "impressed" with the pagan cults of reborn gods that they created their own - and thus christianity was born. I find that rather far-fetched but the book was an interesting read nevertheless.
Dear Doctor Science: Why can't you divide by zero? Kitty Evans, Des Moines, Iowa
I can and often do divide by zero, but only after I've made the necessary preparations. First of all, I fast for 48 hours, consuming during that time only mildly fluoridated water. Next I don my special teflon division-by-zero suit. Then I put on my digitally recorded compact disc of Gregorian chants and begin with dividing very small numbers by other very small numbers. As the numbers get smaller, the sparks begin to fly. If all goes well, I take a deep breath and divide a very small number by zero. There's a flash of light, a muffled roar, and when I regain consciousness, the lab is filled with smoke and the scent of burning mylar. So, you see, you can divide by zero if you really want to. Chances are....you just don't want to badly enough.
I was under the same impression when I had a look at struts.
I also tried a project with a struts-like PHP framework and it was awkward. Can you recommend any alternatives to struts?
I had a look into these projects before I chose S5. My problem with LaTex-based presentations is that I haven't found a way to use my ttf fonts in latex. There seems to be a utility as a part of MikTex for Windows. (Un)fortunately I use Mac OS X.
Has anyone a helpful link?

If you look for something like Struts for PHP, you can have a look at Phrame. They tried to come very close to Struts.
If you look for somthing like Hibernate for PHP you can look at Propel.
What about yeast?
In many older Sci-Fi books there were some big tanks in which yeast was grown and manufactured into a variety of food. What does yeast need to grow?

You can't impose a "superior" culture on another without provoking hatred and rejection of that very culture - creating the opposite effect of what you intended.
Well, the start/stop Button you mentioned is only present in the consumer version of OS X. A newbie user doesn't WANT to configure anything, s/he wants to drop HTML files into the "Sites" folder and watch them with a web browser.
As soon as you want more from your web server, you know more than the newbie user and can either buy OS X Server which has a fine GUI for your configuration needs, install Webmin oder do the configuration by hand.
I know it's annoying to buy hacks for things that once were built into the OS, but have you tried "WindowShades OS X"? http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/wsx/

You can look this page to read about a teacher who has successfully employed the socratic method to teach binary arithmetics to third graders.

Well, do you know of a good visual GUI designer that exports to XUL? I had a look at XUL but I didn't want to edit all the XML by hand.

Yeah, that worked quite well in the years from 1919 to 1933.

I think there is a third option: Passive, nonviolent resistance like they did in India, South Africa, Eastern Germany and (gasp) America in the 60s.

If you don't have anything against buying software you could try Emailchemy .
It worked quite well for me and it is multiplatform.
