Using a cell phone in a movie theater annoys customers who have already paid. Using a cell phone in a department store may convince you that you should spend your money elsewhere.
Ok but that's not correct in terms of US politics. The point is Mitt didn't think he needed to build any bridges to the left to win, that the swing voters would be enough. He was wrong, he lost. This may be the anomaly: that someone would blatantly be on a platform of "screw half of you". He really thought he'd win, and he was close enough to be scary.
The US is known for very individualistic thinking, that's what differentiates us from many countries. The upside to individualism is that generally personal freedom is valued higher than social good. The downside is that personal gain is also valued above social good, and we elect people who are openly self-centered.
I think in this sense Sweden is fairly opposite the US in culture. From what I know of the place, their politics run far more to social benefit above individual need.
I would argue the other way: most kids coming out of colleges with EE degrees are overqualified for the careers they will go in to, and will quickly get bored, angry and burnt out.
Why spend 4+ years studying hard math and physics, and having to actually work for your degree when your job leaving school is going to consist of: - Project management - People management - Ensuring cheap, less qualified foreign labor isn't obviously screwing up - Flying to some of the worst, most godforsaken cities in some of the worst, most godforsaken countries
My neighborhood HOA in Round Rock has the TWC signs out in the front and still keeps saying (not in any place that is written down) that it's illegal to have satellite dishes on your roof, Of course I do, and I dare them to make me take it down.
None the less, there is no way to get good internet. It's suck with AT&T or suck with TWC. Hoping that Google fiber in "Austin" includes Round Rock somehow.
I am fairly certain that 1) morality and ethics are two different concepts, related but distinct, and 2) that neither one is entirely subjective and based on an individual's environment and beliefs. In fact by definition both are entirely concerned with ones behavior with respect to others.
They may have it worked out in their head that taxes are unfair, and that they pay a disproportionate share. The moral solution is for them to detach themselves from their culture and go live on a deserted island somewhere (or at least in the place where they shelter their bucks). They would not do so as this would cause them significant harm, cost and distress and possibly subject themselves to angry mobs without a strong military or police force to protect them. And so they wish to benefit from the trappings of the society in which they live, but not be bound by it.
"Rational" in your case is as measured by pure self interest. I don't think a system of ethics based around self-interest would be consistent. It is rational for us to rise against these people and kill them in their sleep and take their money. Such a society would not be very enjoyable to live in for anyone at all, nor would it last long.
He means by previous users. He takes no responsibility for what uses do to themselves, but doesn't necessary want them losing passwords or credit card numbers because of what the last person did.
Reminds me of a program manager I dealt with once. I was one foot out the door with offers on the table, having given up on my employer whose name rhymes with hell. I flat out refused to support an ODM design (I actually refused my entire 7 years there, but never was obvious about it). He asked me why, and I said I only support my local businesses. He wanted to bring me to HR for all sorts of racism, xenophobism, protectionism, insubordination, accusing me of trying to unionize, etc.
Then I asked him (knowing the answer), why we are using this ODM at all, and his response was that the end customer (a large Chinese company) will only purchase through (a large Chinese manufacturer) and they would only support locally designed products. I asked why they can't just take my working, tested, FCC approved design and he said they wanted to change components. I asked "What's wrong with the components on my board, is there a defect?", and he said "They're not made in China".
The worst part, the part that made me furious, is that he couldn't see my point. He kept spouting off capitalist slogans and telling me to read this inane book about the new global economy.
As someone who lived on Staten Island most of his life, I can say for certain the native language there is not Dothraki, nor is that commonly spoken there as to know about it you'd have to be able to read. The usual dialect spoken there sounds a lot like "HAYHAYVINNIEMYMAN! Howyadoon, longtimenosee, youan fuckin Joey dont fuckin come out no more!", which is basically the formal way of saying "Hello, I'm about to punch you on the back."
My phone has had facial recognition for a real long time now. Then my son realized he can open the phone by pointing it at my face while I sleep, or a picture of me in the living room, and he can get in. So now I disabled it, because he was really the one I was trying to keep out...
I'd much rather have Hey Jude stuck in my head than that annoying "Musical Doodle" song from spongebob squarepants. My son was engaged in scientific study of his own, listening to that over and over again while I was half asleep. This seems to be a great way of forcing a song stuck into someone's head.
Lucent always had an issue with cronyism and wealthy people and their children. Carly did her part screwing up there, but she was far, far from alone. I'm not sure there was an exec in that place who could pound sand in a hole.
Hey, given how frequently my employers want to send me to China to train their idiotic "engineers", knowing all I have to do is possess a sensitive GPS device is all I need to know.
I await the banhammer China, [sung to the mighty mouse theme] here I come to train your slaves!
They could integrate, but high end GPUs burn 120W/GPU and are good only at crunching numbers. These are good at serving web pages, files and routine DB work. And then go to sleep (and use very little power) when people aren't asking for web pages. They're not intended to replace Xeon's or GPUs for number crunching, the realization is that number crunching isn't that important for a lot of applications
It's not entirely unlike the cell phone/tablet vs. Desktop debate. For most people, cell phones offer all the computing power they will ever need. A few people need desktops. The belief is that most datacenters dont' crunch so much and are bound by hard disks, network and how much power their power company can possibly provide.

Guess who is going to spend money jamming.

I know it, they know it. But they can SAY anything they like, and bully people, provided they are careful with how they do it.

When it comes to Apple, more or less, yes. Other options: don't use the care bear garden.
And like all married men, he may find that her BIOS is locked down (except for shady men from abroad) and she won't perform basic tasks.
Yes yes yes I'm a horrible misogynist, but I can't pass on this one.
So what they are REALLY saying is...
Honey, we left the cash on the dresser, and now you want more?
This is more of a Barney the Dinosaur rampage than a Godzilla rampage.

In other words, no matter what we set the H1-B cap to it will fill up as fast as applications can be processed, because there's money to be made.

Huawei stealing secrets? No Way!
And you think the US isn't doing the same thing, but hiding it better?
All the more reason to not open ourselves up.

I prefer oddly specific laws, this way safer alternatives like road head, always remain legal.

I call it value based pricing. Most high end restaurants charge for a lot more than the cost of the food and labor.
I see the rise in very expensive coffee, where cell phones are unlocked while you wait, for free.

Except, of course, the Marvell chip sucks.
