It wasn't vaporware, didn't you RTFS??? It was actually more complete than us outsiders know! The problem with it was that it was just too bold, can't you read?
Ah poor microsoft. They're just making stuff that's too goddam great and too goddam complete for what the world is ready for. That's why no one's buying any of their stuff unless they're locked into buying it. I guess that, for some reason, we're all just used to shitty incomplete shit, and anything bold and complete will not mesh with that.

"Tough" would be if they didn't care who got hurt or killed or decapitated. Almost sounds like you admire the drug cartel for their "win" of being more vicious and cold.
What do you do when other people do something that you disagree with?
Make laws to make it illegal. Force ID systems on everyone so that they can't avoid you through privacy. Treat everyone as a potential criminal so that you can weed out anyone doing anything you don't agree with. Random security pat-downs etc.
Now the question becomes, what do you do when you're not the one who's making all the decisions about what people can and can't do, and you're doing something that disagrees with those who are?
Ideally, all laws would be fair and fairly enforced, and GP's question wouldn't be applicable, and neither would either of our posts.
Hundreds of years ago the church held a lot of power, which attracted certain types of people. Part of the reason the church has been corrupt in history is that it attracted people who didn't exactly join the priesthood for religious reasons.
Now, people who want to fondle children have a great career option. Others will let them do it, thinking nothing of it until someone's caught being a pervert and the cover-up isn't enough.
A better idea is to cut open the processor itself, so that its insides are exposed to the cool air, instead of having all that hot metal covering it.
Actually, why do they use hot metal for heat sinks anyway??? There must be better metals... most metal things that I know are cold. Something inside the computer must be heating up the metal. If they detach the heatsink from the rest of the computer and thermally insulate it, it should stay a lot cooler and thus remain much more effective.
If they do all these things -- cut open the heat sink, cut open the processor, insulate the heat sink -- that computer would probably be running pretty close to absolute zero.
Cut a hole in the floor. Let the heat pour through it into the basement. You can also set up a heat engine in the basement and use it to power the computer. The more heat you spill, the more power you'll generate, the faster your computer will be. No more electricity bills!
Yes, all of those things are illegal. Or they should be.
Here's a modest proposal for a good mall policy: "Entrance to the mall is conditionally granted only for the express purpose of purchasing items. Any other activity is forbidden and will be considered trespassing. Browsing for items you have no immediate intention of purchasing is forbidden. A minimum value of purchases per minute in the mall will be strictly enforced, and shoppers who have not exceeded the minimum spending will be charged a compensatory fee and/or have an equal value in personal items or clothing confiscated from their person until the minimum is met. By entering mall property (including parking area) you agree to this EULA."
I know how you feel, when the 1st Iraq war broke out, I was on school holidays, at home watching "Good Times", cut it off half way through. Never saw the end of that episode....:-(
But we've had a decade of good times in Iraq! It came back on after a break. We *will* see the end of the episode... one day.
Hey I just realized that kids are right now growing up believing "We've always been at war with mid-Eastasia."
Time to hand in your girlfriend and get your Nerd card back so that you can know what all the acronyms mean including "any of those games" that you don't play.
Any potential but not certain joking aside... Whenever you have the legal system set up to prevent people from living their lives within the law, people will turn to crime. When the laws prevent organizations from making money, there is greater potential for organized crime.
I think it would be interesting to see what would happen if bad businesses like this were literally stopped with violent crime. Would things ever get so bad that the "war on rational patent systems" provoked as much violence as the drug industry in Mexico, with lawmakers refusing to "go soft" and allow patent laws to be changed?
In cases like these, the "little accident" is blatant enough (like accidental heads dropped in traffic) to send a message to other potential patent trolls. How many accidents do you think it would take to change the industry, or change the laws? Or do all industries, and money itself, have a certain tolerance of violence that is proportional to the amount of money involved?
So wait, Red Hat, Canonical, Google and other companies are all warmly welcome to contribute and make improvements, but when it's Microsoft we should go "noo, we don't play with guys like that. go away."
I didn't say any of that, but yes... that's a good idea you have. We should tell MS to go away.
There are companies that are good for FOSS and for users, and companies that are bad. Google and Red Hat have been beneficial for Linux. At the very least, I've never read any stories about either of them charging licensing fees to use other variations of Linux, the way MS is doing with Android.
I think that anyone who doesn't think MS is bad must have assholes so stretched out that they don't feel it anymore.
Ridiculous. Nokia makes the best hardware out there. Their problem is being horribly late with software, due to terrible management.
This gives them an excuse to implement my conspiracy theory: - Nokia will have MS doing the work of "customizing" Linux for the phones. MS will brand it in a way that it both cashes in on the Linux name, and also tries to sound like "It's our own work that makes it good." - MS will keep building up ways to make money off Linux. They'll spin two ways; they'll claim that their work exploiting^H^H^H^H extending Linux legitimizes their right to claim license fees for the rest of it, and they'll slowly solidify their position of "ownership" due to some bullshit patents they have.
Ah, if only it involved killing foreigners. Then you don't have to worry about laws. Bush is really lucky that Cheney did that whole 9/11 thing. After that he did whatever he wanted.
It wasn't vaporware, didn't you RTFS??? It was actually more complete than us outsiders know! The problem with it was that it was just too bold, can't you read?

Not so tough now, are you Anonymous?

Terrists.
Hey at least it's better than in the states, where neutrinos have to go through a full pat-down and a cavity search when crossing borders.
Uh, I think he would have thought of that, and used RECHARGEABLE batteries maybe???
Think about it, dummy.
He can use the energy from the cold fusion to recharge the batteries and keep it going.
Yikes, it sounds like to live free, you have to live like an outlaw!
Is freedom technically outlawed yet in the states? They must be pretty close to succeeding with that plan?

One more point:
- Even if it's too late, it's not really warming.
They're really good at leaping backwards any chance they can.
It's wise of ms to go after the high-price, low-IQ market.
"You don't need to be a computer scientist to use a Windows Phone. You don't need to be anything at all! Most WP users don't even exist!"
The biggest advantage that WP has over Android is that one thing Ballmer mentioned. The biggest advantage that Android has over WP is everything else.
removing comments does not count...
It does if the comment uses 2 cycles to execute.
Rather like saying "There will be weather today."
Rather like saying "There will be interesting weather today."
And it's interesting for some to read about, because it's interesting.

How did they do it?! Is there a way to ask slashdot this?
Granted a proper set of warranty voiding screw bits is faster, but you don't need them.
I assume that OP would prefer to use a method that wouldn't void the warranty.
Windoze Fone 7 really means "kiss of death". So long Nokia, it were nice knowin' ya.
Looks like MS is extending its "of death" brand into new markets.
What happened to the last time this happened?

Bush is really lucky that Cheney did that whole 9/11 thing. After that he did whatever he wanted.
I have a RNG that uses a large table of random characters, and returns them sequentially. Seed value 0. It can recreate the poem.
To populate the table I used a bunch of old text from some dead guy.
