"AOL is going even further, offering such services the option to run AOL-served advertisements as part of a revenue sharing plan. So far, AOL hasn't given too many details on the advertising tie-in, but more details will be released next month." RTA
So, pidgin can now add ad's to the bottom, and share the profits with AOL.
I can log into the Server that all the students use at my school. People write code there, they have projects, and personal files saved. I now potentially have access to everything.
Local does not mean safe if you have many regular users logging in all the time.
So i bought a new Thinkpad T61 at the end of December. I guess its too late to change now. Maybe i can get them to drop the windows tax and send me a copy of Suse? Any one thing this is possible?
So, im not Biologist, but wouldn't the inside of a cows stomach have lots of acid? And the internal body temperature of a cow is probably similar to a humans. So we have the acid, and we are off by about 20 degrees. I'm sure some geneticist somewhere can figure out how to adapt it to these conditions.
Another idea may be to put these bacteria into the pools where the manurer is left to decompose?
Seams a lot more useful in a war zone. At a roadblock in Iraq i think people would appreciate their engine getting shut off a little more the getting shot at.
It could even be set up on a speed trap so that if you enter a road block at a certain speed it would shut off the car automatically.
I guess once again the problem may lie in the fact that most cars in Iraq and other hot spots may not have the Electronic components needed for this. But hey if it stops something like http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4323209.stm then i think its worth it?
I heard on the radio this morning that they are being recalled in Canada and that the distributor will be offering toys of equal value to customers.
At least they were cooperating...
Kinda scary that this kinda stuff can get through.
If Blizzard does not want people using bots/mods, then they should put it in the EULA, and if anyone violates that, handle is accordingly. I don't see how this is in any way copyright infringement.
A good friend of mine is "addicted" to this game. He has been playing for over a year now, and has leveled up 2 characters to level 70. So he wants to make a third character, but he doesn't want to play through all the lower missions. So he uses a bot, to gather some experience. If it wasnt for the bot, he probably wouldn't be playing anymore.
If he was to be charged with this "crime", his defence would be
"Yo...wtf?" "The defense rests"
And any real judge would say "Good point, Case dismissed"
Instead of playing, he watches his bot play...is he paying them? yes. is he interfering with other peoples play? no., so wtf?
Blizzard should stfu, and be happy they are getting his money every month. WoW is a cash cow, and they are just trying to milk it to the Max...those bastards...
I don't know if any of you have noticed, but in the GTA rogers has as of about 2 weeks ago began to heavily block Bittorrent. To the point where random port + encryption does not even work anymore for me and some other friends. Has anyone else had this problem? Do you know how to fix it? It still connects to the tracker, and NAT is green in azureus, but the upspeed and downspeed will not go over 10, if at all. Before i was getting almost 700 Kb/s.
Maybe they don't have anything to worry about after all.
"when he was charged in Arizona with possession of child pornography, even though the family computer was riddled with spy-ware and Trojans."
I am currently taking a Data Forensics Course at Sheridan Institute, and the teacher of the course is a Peel Region Data Forensics officer. He told us in the last 5 years of him being there he has not once come across a machine where child porn was put on the machine by a popup, or spyware. He Said this does not happen, as it would be easily traced back to the company that advertised it. This is not a valid deference in child pornography cases
I think so, i dont know about you guys, but i loved the original movies, and ill be going out to see this one for sure. Even though he is 64 years old, he seams to be in good shape... Still did some running around in Firewall. We will have to wait and see, but im sure with some CGI and fancy camera work, they will make it great. I would think that there wont be as much physical action as in the previous movies, as it would probably be later in Mr. Jones' life as well.
is it just me, or could IBM easily afford to simply buy SCO group? seams like if they just bought the company, they would have nothing to worry about, and the issue would end.

Hmm....so do they like power off the satellites for 16 hours a day normally? What exactly do they mean by "overtime"
Google is buying up so many differnt start ups its crazy. Before you know it they will be offering full movies. This could quickly turn into a rival to iTunes music store. Google is quickly developing an online suite of tools that will rival anything that m$ or Linux can offer within a few years.
It will be interesting to see who they partner up with next, and what the result will be with video.google.com and youtube.com. Will they merge? or will they just keep both going?
i wonder what kinda of hardware you need to send a burst of 14 TBps? is it comming from that much ram? harddrives? U must have some good hardware to be able to queue up that much data and burst transfer like that.
Since when is slashdot a "Major news site"? Thats news to me. Its a bit TECHNOLOGY related website, and last time i looked, m$ was one of the biggest players in that game. So when they lock in a annoying, and possible very disruptive feature into their OS, i think that is News.
if you want real "news" go to here or here, not here
Encryption is your friend! If you're going to be carying around anything important or sensitive on a flash drive, you'd best encrypt it. It may be conviniant to have all your files with you, but if someone gets that stick, your SOL. Anything is better then nothing. Sure it may slow down you getting your files, and you dont have to encrypt the whole drive, but anything important should not be viewable. And always have a backup somewhere other then your drive.
Possibly make it so that if the password or decryption fails X times, the drive clears itself. Thus preventing stolen data. Unless they just copy the files and then crack em, either way, it cant hurt
"Disclaimer: I own almost every old and new console system. But I'll skip on PS3."
and you post anonymously just in case in 6 months when you say OMFG the PS3 is the best thing i own, we cant all look back and point out soimething. You can judge a book b4 you read it. Lets all just wait till it comes out, and then we can decide. Judging it on speculation i just a waste of time.
dont allow USB keys, dont allow unregisterd laptops/no wireless network. Obviously nothing is 100% secure, but if security is a concern, then you need to find the right balance for your work place. Obviously you cant lock everything dowen 100% an d expect poeple to be able to function. But you cant leave everything open for anyone to what they please. Thats just asking to be robbed. You need security to a degree, but if you take it to far, it will back fire(like the article states)
The main reason that the internet is locked down at my work(a large canadian bank) is for secutiry. Its not to stop people form browsing. Obviously for sexual harasment, etc reasons pron and things of that nature are blocked.
But also they block webmail, webmsn, pastebin's and other technologies like that. Otherwise whats stoping me from grabbing this 10 meg spreadsheet with all kindsa of useful customer info on it and emailing it to myself at home?
Only email i get is companny mail through outlook, and everything i send is logged for the next 7 years.
Why do people expect to be given free internet access at work? Your there to work, not to check your personal mail, or watch some youtube videos. Its a perk if they allow these things, but i dont think they should be expected
int he past i had 200GB of traffic...this includes up and down...and in a month, not a week.
Im saying taht i can already go over teh monthly limit at 6 Mbit, why would i need 12? so i can go over it in a week instead of a month? I control my bandwidth alot more, and seed less torrents no to conserve bandwidth.
If you have a 60 gig cap, then your speed should only be 5Mbit. For an extra 4 dollars for modem rental, you can get a 6Mbit line, and a 100 Gig cap. Still not too good, but i think its worth 4 dollars.
I have also heard from a friend on the inside that they will start to charge you for every gig you go over your limit starting in the next few months. You wont get cut off, or slowed down, you will just notice a big increase in your bill the following month. Im not 100% sure about this, but my friend who works in their business office told me this, so i think its true.
Other then that rogers is crap. Slow durring the day, traffic shapping, and slow speeds.
Altho i also heard that they will be offering a 12 Mbit connection for 100CND$ a month, but you still have a 100GB cap. I can do 200 Gigs at 6Mbit, why do i need more speed if i can only use it for a week, and then have to pay through the nose per GB?
