Given the context in which this story is presented, the teacher is quite ignorant. Granted, there is probably a lot more going on than what is in the story. Even so, I was given detention for talking in Calculus one day. The problem... I was at home sick. Needless to say it was easy to get out of.
I'm mean really, who would think this is new or unique to a field or industry? If you do think this is unique, I have some very small packages of dehydrated water that I can let you have for a special price.
Person x has limited knowledge in an area of expertise, so goes to person y. Person y attempts to up sell at best, and a ripoff at worse.
Seems rather dumb to be surprised by such behavior in really any field of service oriented work.
I fail to see how showing a receipt when leaving a store is trading in my civil rights. Seriously, I don't like it, that is why I don't shop at stores that do such stupid things. Why doesn't a store have a right to look at your receipt? You give no example on how that is infringing on someones civil rights.
I mean come on, one has to pick their battles. Employees not allowing you to leave the parking lot would be a civil rights violation, not showing a receipt to a store that you chose to do business with.....
Sounds to me like four wrongs don't make a right. The story here is there are four a$$holes that have nothing better to do than be pricks. If you don't want to show your receipt when you leave a store, don't shop there. If someone doesn't show their receipt, don't illegally detain them. If you are a police officer, know the law you are supposed to uphold. These four idiots deserve each other.
Canadians between the ages of 18 and 29 are much more willing than other age groups to make illegal copies of software programs, cheat on exams or even shoplift, an Environics poll suggests.
I couldn't agree more with the parent post.
Well duh, I bet 18-29 year olds have always been more likely to shoplift than older age groups. 18-29 age groups don't tend make as much money as the other groups. Also, they are more likely to be in school than older age groups too so the are more likey to cheat on exams.
People who have cars are more likely to drive than people who don't.
People who are alive are more likely to die within the next year than people who aren't alive.
Just give me the document. I'll print off a hard copy today, that new fangled paper technology looks promising (Assume acid free paper, no sunlight, etc, for you picky individuals). Just leave them a cd with my contact info. I will give them the directions to the family fortune, I promise. You can trust me, I'm a [insert political party of choice here].
A co-worker worked at Seagate for 20 plus years, including these drives, until the laid off almost everyone at their Oklahoma City location. When we asked him about these a few months ago, he mentioned their reasoning behind making them was to charge a premium. Current 3.5 drives are basically a commodity. If you switch to 2.5 drives, they want them in desktops too, Seagate can charge a ton for them again.
"Well, I've just been reading an interesting little article on New Scientist's website about new crowd control weapons that
electrocute/stun the targets. Seems we will soon be at risk of being stunned by ionised air generated by laptop sized lasers..."
Electrocute - to kill by electric shock
If I wanted to kill you, why not use my.357? Or better yet, why don't you come write the formal documentation on this code I just completed?
I hope hardware isn't as "cheap" and inefficient like they did with their db.

Granted, people that think 63% == 2/3 qualify as stupid/ignorant and thus their comments should not be trusted.
2/3 of x population is stupid/ignorant. Holds true where I work, seems to hold true in this poll, my friends, family...
apt-get has been very painful and difficult for me to use.
Two weeks? It will take longer than that for my computer to compile Gentoo :)

Well, it's just as easy to pay people to post reviews on slashdot as it is to pay them to post them anywhere else.
I've always gone to Slashdot for "News for Nerds", not for "Please tell me what scanner to buy." That is why I go to such sites as TomsHardware.
What is so wrong with using Google to find an answer?

Aren't they really two seperate languages? They are similar on the surface. I just don't think they should be on the same line.

Make that "I hope hardware isn't as "cheap" and inefficient like their db." It is sad when you have to edit your unread comment.
