The asians have been selling anti-radiation maternity cloths for years now. My wife purchased one herself. Surprisingly, they work...at blocking cell reception at least. I tested it out with two cell phones. Both had full bars. As soon as I covered one of the phones all the way around, the signal dropped. It was instant and the test could be repeated over and over again. So the clothes do was they're advertised to do. The question is, does it really impact the safety of fetal development? Doubt it. But there you go.

As a longtime member here on Slashdot, I don't mind the the occasional "slashvertisement" so long as two criteria are met.
    1. The published Slashvertisement is labeled as such in it's own category. It must be blatant and up-front.
    2. They are kept occasional.

Truth is, I have an Iron key basic. There are many features I like about them such as ease of use, self-destruction of data if the password is entered wrong too many times, and FIPS certified. Yes, there are free roll-your-own solutions out there. But the decision I made to purchase a solution was personal. However, Slashvertisements are a welcome IMOH as as reader I value the options that other members have to say about them. That includes the good, the bad, and the ugly.

BTW, why isn't this new product FIPS certified? Is it pending certification, or has their product line been dumbed down after being bought out by another company?

No backstory. At least none that I know of. But what really sells a product is the packaging. In china, it's quite common to find more money spent on developing the packaging than the product itself. I've even read a few comments on car product packaging over at the Chinese version of Newegg (www.newegg.cn). While yes, product packaging is great form of marketing, rarely do I hear or read any comments of it here in the USA. It's strictly for impulse purchasing. But apparently to the Chinese, it's well worth talking about. I haven't a clue if the same phenomenon occurs in Japan, or Korea however.

The Chinese are notorious for paying stupid amounts of money on the latest fads of industrial goods. Given they're walking into a new era of consumerism from post communism, this shouldn't surprise you. This phase will pass. Actually, it waxes and wanes throughout any industrialized society. But these past 10 years, the Chinese are most definitely waxing into uncharted levels.

Now, if you have no morals or ethics, an American can makes "shit piles" of money (a large metric) by selling snake oil to China.

Obviously you are making vast assumptions of how it should work (and I would agree) vs how it does work. I dont think you even tried this youself. I have as my job requires remote IT assistance for end users. Bottom line; Microsoft fucked up big time on this! Even if you uncheck all options to provide the most responsiveness in a low bandwidth environment, it's a fundimentally flawed implementation.

The problem isn't the RDP protocol, it's that Windows8 was never designed to accessed remotely with any streaming video protocol because of lots of motion activity and hot points at the edge of the screen. At best, running RDP over a 100mb LAN may resolve the performance issue, but you will still be left with the aggravation of trying to activate the hot point remotely within another window.
