Everything from 3D animation, graphs, charts, HiDef video, 7.1 surround sound...ect is all geared toward feeding the senses. Just compare modern GUI based software to that of the older CLI. The fact is, complex representation requires complicated and faster hardware. Websites are no exception. In fact, far from it!
Not only that, but they have two giant companies to compete with. Namely Apple and Google. This industry is cut-throat, and the loss of momentum is extremely dangerous.
Embracing OSS while at the same time keeping control over the direction of your platform is the name of the game.

If I'm reading this right, external cooling may not be the issue. The problem would be the thermal transfer coefficient of the memory chip itself. Imagine are large number of these modules being stacked on top of each other, they now take on a "cube" form. While the outside is nice and cold, the center of the cube could instantly spike in temp (causing damage) before it has a chance to migrate to the surface for heat dissipation.
The obvious solution would to limit the density and/or how many modules to stack per chip if thermal transfer is an issue.

Depends on how you quantify "efficient". From a totalitarian command and control structure, sure. But it doesn't scale well if at all. So when looking at the bigger picture of an entire nation, the government becomes its own vice at achieving goals. China and Russia have learned this to some extent while N.Korea has not.

Why not just have three ECUs instead of just one? Just link them up and apply some voting logic. Two of the three will provide the right answer. If all three disagree, a fail-safe goes into action and all three ECUs process data on the next round of sensory input.
