Companies are delaying/canceling IT projects all over the place. My company had a client last week, whine about needing a server upgrade, but cant do it because we actually charge for that shit.

We get that same line with some of our clients too.

You know what really pisses me off though? They come ranting and raving about how we should support something for free because we sold them the solution in the past. Uh huh, and Mazda should replace all broken parts in my car during its life because I bought it from them. Right, sure... whatever...

When a client is being difficult about support, make sure they understand life will be a lot harder for them when doing "reactive" vs "proactive" support. Oh, and make sure your receptionist is swapping out the nightly backup tapes too. When shit hits the fan, you'll need em.

Sure, I could write batch files or script it. However, I'm always trying new options and feature combinations. For me, a simple GUI that I can run with is what I want.

Yup, 4GB is really needed to make it feel like XP with 1GB. I know that the 4GB limit is due to running a 32bit OS, but i'm not sure 4GB is also a physical limit for your laptop as well. In any case, if your going to run Windows Vista, I suggest only going with the Vista Ultimate 64bit edition. Not only does it run very snappy with 8GB of memory, but it provides room to grow with your other applications as well. Most of the 64bit hardware support is semi-mature with multi-function printers still lagging a bit behind (but getting better each day).

Sorry, but you're deluded if you think that way about Texas.

I've lived in Austin from 2001 to 2006. Both before and after that time I've lived in Houston all my life. Given the fact Austin is a university city, it should come to no surprise that it's home to many progressives and liberals (voting record proves it too). As for them thinking independently; yes, creativity is a requirement for being an artist and/or musician. But being a "free thinker" doesn't make one more intelligent or properly informed.

Houston on the other hand is a religious city being that you can find many churches, synagogues, mosques and temples in the area. However, you won't find many evangelicals Christians here like you would in a typical bible-thumping state. Given the fact Houston has more engineers and doctors compaired to Austin, I'm willing to bet most Slashdotters would prefer this city over an artsy-fartsy place like Austin or San Francisco.
