    Keep in mind that with Microsoft, an RC version fits between Beta and Final.

    Ever heard of a "dirty bomb"? Cleanup would be a bitch, but the socioeconomic impact would be devastating. Hell, i'd wager the US media would PAY for an event like this. Nothing like a good story to bring in the ratings.

    Given the amount of anti-Americanism fostered in college campuses around the country, the chance for another "Timothy McVeigh vigilantism" (in the form of a dirty weapon) even rises the possibility for such an attack.

    I do hope this material is kept under lock-and-key as every says it is. I'll just have to take their word for it...

    I'm not saying they did or didn't. But I agree with the parent in that the Telco's are getting fucked sideways by our government. And remember, these are civilian corporate intuitions. It's not like this is a politically motivated game for them. They're trying to run a business to make a profit, not partake in legislature!

    Except that the President can't start a war. The right to declare war is given to Congress alone.


    The president has the executive legal authority to use military force. Only congress however can "officially" declare war. As I know, only when congress makes an official declaration, you can start drafting.

    Remember the bombing of the aspirin factory and Mogadishu under the Clinton administration? Yup, that was perfectly legal too.

    And if that wasn't enough, even more bandwidth can be freed up by moving your network to Switched Video technology. Time Warner Cable has already made the transition in Austin, TX for example.

    I'm not sure I understand.

    As I know, you want the ability to check your file system in case of a dirty shutdown. For example, if you still have data in RAM pending write-backs to the drive and have a power failure; it would be a good idea to check the partition for data corruption. Luckily most modern file systems are "journaling" which helps prevent against corruption. Either the data has been committed, or it hasn't.

    Obviously Brazil doesn't want to frighten away foreign investers, but their actions were rather harsh I thought. But hey, it's their laws and they can enforce them anyway they wish. Hell, they can kick them out of the country and you wouldn't get an argument from me.

    The question everyone should ask is this: Was this a wise move to act so harshly to enforce this law? Keeping foreign investors while keeping them in-line with the law ought to take a more diplomatic approach IMHO.

    Perhaps DDR3 ECC is not supported because the memory controller (North Bridge) can't up with the increase in calculation overhead that is necessary. I wouldn't think that would be the issue if all ECC calculations are a synchronous event with memory read/write operations.

    Just a guess.

    You sir, would be correct. I found the documentation on Intel's website. Found in 31846901.pdf section 3.3 titled ECC Support.

    For DDR3 the X38 Express Chipset does NOT support ECC, does not support ECC unbuffered
    DIMMs, and it does not support any memory configuration that mixes non-
    ECC with ECC un-buffered DIMMs.

    For DDR2 the X38 Express Chipset does support ECC and ECC un-buffered DIMMs but
    it does NOT support any memory configuration that mixes non-ECC with ECC unbuffered
    DIMMs.


    Damn, that blows. And shame on Asus for false documentation!

    It's about damn time. I've looked all over the net to find an official answer. Not even Intel's webpage mentions anything about the X38 supporting ECC. So, I downloaded the manual for the Asus P5E3 Deluxe board. From page 2-13 of the PDF document.

    You may install 512, 1GB, and 2GB unbuffered ECC, non-ECC DDR3 DIMMs into the DIMM sockets.


    To Intel and vendors: How bloody hard is to include "supports ECC" in your online product summary?

    Didn't China whack one of their weather satellites with a missile not too long ago?

    Point being, even after a satellite has been destroyed, the shrapnel (debris) can remain in orbit and pelt/damage other satellites in the general orbital area. Unless you want to deal with all sorts of technical gremlins to hash out, the last thing you want is for your satellites to be damaged with space junk.

    Oh please!

    I remember when DVD players launched at $600 and then hovered around $400. Today, you can get a Coby brand DVD player for $29.99 MSRP. Cheaper yet, I could purchase a DVD player for just under 5 US dollars while in Shanghai.

    Besides, why shouldn't the early adopter manufactures not make a profit? I know I'd milk this market for as long as I could...until the Chinese come in and undercutted me.
