Rather then Intel and AMD having to make up for the slacking off of software developers, maybe now programmers get clean up their bloated code and write more streamlined smaller code. Simple, elegant code can be more efficient on the amount of CPU cycles needed to process the program. But as long as faster CPUs keep comming out...what the hell...let's just write the next program in basic or java. Why is joe-sixpack going to care anyways?

Smoking is the number one cause of cancer with or without asbestos involved. But if your a smoker and have been exposed to asbestos, your soon to be dead and don't know it yet. However, asbestos can still help in the effect of cancer causing agents if you're working around chemicals and live in a city with smog such as LA.

That said, in theory if you lived a hermetically sealed bubble (like bubble boy) and have been exposed to pounds of asbestos, you will not get cancer. I personally have not been involved in such studies, but it does sound reasonable when you understand how simple asbestos really is. It's nothing more then fibrous material. Yet, because it's so microscopic, it does have a nasty effect on cell walls in the effect it punctures them.

In the mean time, check out these links.

There are others too. Just google for it as "Co Carcinogen Asbestos" without the quotes.

Note: I find it sad that you can't find your own fucking sources. Your posting on slashdot yet fail to google for them yourself. That's rather...pathetic. *sigh*

  6. Co-Carcinogens on UK Scientists Recommend Caution in Nanotechnology · · Score: 2, Informative

Asbestos is known to be a Co-Carcinogen. That is, by itself asbestos doesn't do anything. But, if your a smoker then asbestos makes it much easer for the carcinogen agents of tabacco to slip through the cell walls and disrupting the DNS. Thus, lung cancer is 50 times more likely to happen in a smoker exposed to asbestos then not being exposed.

All in all, I think the fear of nano-particles being another co-carcinogen is justified untill further research is done.

The fact of the matter is the rest of the world (US, Europe, China, Russia...etc) doesn't really know if OPEC is telling the truth or not as to how much oil *really* is left in the ground. For all we know, there may only be 5 years left at current rate of consumption. And when looking at this from a national security standpoint, this is very very BAD.

We can't risk letting the middle east hold the US hostage to our ever-growing demand on oil. Sure, oil is clean burning when done properly with a maintained turbine or tuned engine, but it IS running out. And it is of my optionion that the Pentagon knows this. Why else would the be so frantically filling up our emergency reserves?

I'm willing to wager that we will be forced into spending more research and development on alternative fuels. And Shell and Exxon know this. I'm sure well start seeing them work on bio-fuel projects and refining them into usable plastics. Time will tell....

Notice how high the AIDs epidemic is. And they won't use condoms because it doesn't "feel right". Once you're sexually active, it's like genetic behavior switch that doesn't turn off easily.
