Or perhaps a free training course (with certificate) when buying an Apple computer. The training course alone will ease newbies in and show them how easy it is, and the certificate will attract the people looking to improve their resume.
Apple already does this, and you don't even need to buy a computer. Go to the Apple Store, and you can take any one of several courses on OS X, from the operating system and basics, to iPhoto or iMovie. All of the classes are small and thus can be tailored to you, and all you have to do is sign up. It doesn't cost money, and you don't have to buy anything.
I worry about the opposite of this situation... People wired to control their computers that cease to use their muscles for anything else. You think couch potatoes are bad? Just imagine someone hard wired to the Net 24/7.
We already are at the point where we can give the blind 25 pixel vision. directly through the brain. Just wait until that increases to 1024 x 768, and you can bring in other, erm, sensations as well. Welcome to the new couch potato. They won't go anywhere!
Well, it's a lonely life sometimes....

I'm sure I'm totally alone on this, but this thing looks incredible. Yeah, the stats aren't the greatest, but I've always wanted a pocketable computer (not PDA, but computer) that could be plugged into a full sized monitor, keyboard, and mouse, when home or at the office.
If I were rich, I'd get one of these and use a bluetooth cell phone (or Wi-Fi, where available) to VNC into a cheap OS X box running at the office. I can't stand Windows.
If they only had:
More storage and memory or a faster processor,
Better Linux support, and
a lower price,
I think that these would do really well. Why sync your data when you can just carry it around on one device?
Ah well. It'll be the toy of the rich. Let's hope this company lives long enough to get cheap enough for the common people.
Also, let's not forget that you only need a certain amount of speed to type an e-mail and surf the web. This thing should be able to run Office just fine. I don't think anyone's going to buy it for Quake.
I find it ridiculously simplistic that Senator Palpatine could so easily engineer the takeover of the Empire
I find it ridiculous that Bush is doing the same thing Palpatine did to the Republic here in America, but it's happening. If it's happening here in real life while movies are being released to the public about the exact same plot in a Sci-Fi galaxy, I'm sure it could happen in Star Wars-land.
The first commercial web browser, originally written for the platform the WWW was invented on, is still the best. OmniWeb has more features than any other browser.
I couldn't imagine using anything else, but if I had to use another browser, it would be FireFox. I don't care if my browser is integrated with Address Book. FireFox does almost everything OW does. Camino is stuck in a strange no-mans land, and with Safari out there, Camino will remain a nitch browser.
Safari is for average users. OmniWeb is for people that want amazing features. FireFox is for power users that want a free and open source browser. Camino just doesn't bring anything vital to the table.
I submitted a form on your website for a free bumper sticker a couple weeks ago. The site says that it shouldn't take long for it to get here. Where is it? I want my bumper sticker, demmit!
Do you think that Libertarians living in Nazi Germany in the 1930's would have been justified in leaving their homeland to find a land with more freedoms?
If so, what do you think modern Libertarians that believe that the 2000 election was stolen and that the Federal government is so out of control (PATRIOT Act, etc.) that moving to a nation with more freedom is the only alternative?
I am a long time supporter of the Libertarian Party.
Do you think that the Libertarian Party will ever get taken seriously by the mainstream press?
Why is it that the Libertarian Party, which has been the 3rd largest party for over a decade, has received nowhere near the serious consideration given to parties like the Green and Reform parties?
Can you simply walk in and take books off the shelf to carry outside and read? No.
Um, have you ever heard of checking out a book? It's where you go to a library, present them with your card, and then leave with any book you want. If you desire, you can then read them on the public lawn outside the library.
Because Wi-Fi doesn't need to be "checked out", this guy was simply skipping an unneccesary step. If it said in the Terms of Use that the Wi-Fi must be used indoors, then you might have a point.
On a similar vein, do you remember when these networks weren't referred to as "the" first?
FidoNet was FidoNet, ARPANET was ARPANET, and InterNet was InterNet, and not "The Internet".
I was aghast the first time I heard Dan Rather on the news describing "The Internet" in 1994. I was thinking, "News corespondent! Improper English!! Ahhhh!!!".
Does anyone else notice that Martin Sergeant from TechTV still calls it by it's proper name, "InterNet", and not "The Internet"?

Knauss said at one of the first meetings with PortalPlayer, Fadell said, "This is the project that's going to remold Apple and 10 years from now, it's going to be a music business, not a computer business."
I wonder if Apple will suddenly stop making the Mac one day if the marketshare continues to dwindle? I'm a huge OS X fan, I'm typing this from my iBook, so it's no troll. As someone who was screwed when they dropped continuation (or any support whatsoever) for the Apple II line, I have to wonder what will happen to the Mac if it's not making money, but their music section is.
How to right-click on any modern Macintosh:
Hold down the control key on the keyboard.
Click.
Lather, rinse, repeat.

Real Life Comic? You mean this?
That doesn't mean anything. The Apple IIgs, at the time they cancelled it, was the world's most popular make of PC.
It is not DCC.
The correct abbreviation for Daimler Chrysler is DCX.
