  1. Cheated with UPX on Windows 95 in 4.47MB · · Score: 5, Interesting

    From the page:

The system uses UPX compression on the main EXEs and DLLs, btw, in case you were wondering how I got it down past redruM69's 5.35mb. I also removed some extra files, and restored functionality which the other micro 95 builds don't have. I'll try UPXing the entire system and windows folders later, see if I can get it down past 4 or 3mb ;)

UPX compresses most executables to 30% of their normal size. But it also makes the system slower (well its Win95 so thats not a big issue ;) ) as the executables/libraries get uncompressed to memory when they get loaded by the Windows PE loader.

I'd like to see how small you can get the smallest floppy Linux using UPX, `strip` and some size squeezing GCC and linker flags :)

If you check the UPX examples you'll see that you can even get Emacs to less than 1 MB 8)

I already read about that a few hours ago on a German newspage and am currently waiting for SIPPhone's sales dep. to answer my questions :)

As you get 2 phones for $129 its not that big problem that you can only call other SIPPhones with that... I might buy a pair and give one phone to my girlfriend as she lives over 200km away from me and a priceless phone connection to her would lower my bill alot ;)

If anyone is curious about the quality, there is some info about that on their homepage saying:

SIP calls typically have very high audio quality. Call quality is much better than cell phones and may even be better than land line phones you're used to - especially over long distances and between countries. SIP uses the latest compression techniques which allow calls to sound their best.

    Sounds ok for me :)

  8. ICQ on Googling Your Way Into Hacking · · Score: 5, Interesting

A friend of mine actually used this to steal ICQ numbers. He wrote a perl script wich googles from "00000001.idx 00000001.dat" to "99999999.idx 99999999.dat" and spits out the result links to a textfile if it gets a full match.

The ICQ password is stored in one of those two datafiles and there are dozend of free decrypt programms for that out there.

But if you think about it... how or why does someone put his ICQ directory on a webserver?!

On the other hand... some people are hosting pr0n sites and dont even know about it ;)
