...there are sockets to program to and some kind of TCP/IP protocol, you will see P2P programs. What theroy is that, as long as something can happen, it will happen...or something like that....
Think about it, a bunch of crazy animals walking around and talking on this crazy mystic world. It's very sureal. It's not fine art, but ti's bizzare none the less.
Yeah, it's sad. He went to the college I attend currently, which is not known for CS but a few good minds have come from it. He was all but gone well before he died a pathetic and sad death, hanging around strippers and being consumed by alcohol. He was a man with an idea and was able to capitlize on it and helped the idea of shareware become accepted so amateur programmers could make a little scratch on their software while still offering it to all regardless of paying or not.
Anywasy, it does kind of sound like a company trying to cash in, lets see if it works.
We still use MIPS to teach some classes that use assembly. For learning it, we (and many others) use a program called SPIM (clever, huh) that emulates a MIPS processor on a *nix or Windows machine. It was a fun language to learn and use although I'm sure I'll never have to use it. I haven't played with too many other assembly languages, just a bit of PPC but I hear X86 is a pain to program in compared to MIPS.
I remember writing a standard input and output routine set with SPIM among other cool things. I think MIPS assembly language had the benifit of being a low leval language that still kind of felt a little higher leval than most assembly languages.
Sure, sucks for some people but really there will be so many hacks out for this. I'll be able to "rent" music for a dollar an album and crack it. It's not like the data can be destroyed, and if even if it can you have to be able to some how crack it and use it. What a joke. Will people actually fall for this?
Damn straight. But honestly, the only team I hate more than the Lakers is the Spurs. Tim Duncan may be a good playe, but damn is he boring to watch. Although Duncan is MVP, and that's not a bad choice, Tracy McGrady is the best there is. Hopefully the Kings or Mavs can take them (Spurs) out.
That's my fear too. For most things this wouldn't happen...but with DV editing getting more and more advanced it may become impossible to tell if something is real or an edit. Let's happen to say you're a political activist the government is after you....all they have to do is make aa tape like this and it's over.
I hope we never become so reliant on technology like this we refuse to use common sense. Many unforseen dangers may lye ahead for us.
At the same time, perhaps this video will show some of the police brutality that goes on, and it is a lot. I understand they have a stressful, dangerous job and they have to always believe the person they are after could pose a deadly threat to them, but once apprehanded the *suspect* should be treated with dignity, regardless of their behavior directed at an officer. It's cowardly of police officers to kick, puch, spit upon or what ever else they may do to someone in cufts.
Luckily, most cops are "good cops" and are only trying to do a service...but, has anyone ever put out a report on the "gang mentality" of cops? The Gang Mentality is an ongoing sociology reseacrh topic, but it seems cops get in trouble when they are in groups and that group mentality kicks in.
How about uor of print things? It seems viable to have this out of print content put up as MP3's, ya know. It wont really cost any more. I listen to a lot of old post punk, art punk etc, from various places and it's hard to obtain a lot of this stuff....if they could catalogue these hard to find songs, that would be great.
Your link is interesting no doubt, but Microsoft is probably funding or owns hundreds of things they don't know about. And, as long as things are making money, they don't care.
It's very interesting, and you did great research....and perhaps you should submit this to slashdot as an article and see if they print it. If they do, we have no reason to be suspicious....if not, well.....at least an explanation perhaps....Also, this is probably out of CmdrTaco's hands...I mean, he just runs the site, ya know. He has nothing to do with the upper parts...but, his comments and feelings would be interesting.
Yeah, I guess you're right. I for one don't buy their albums. Perhaps, a band like Sonic Youth is on Geffen, thus an RIAA band, but I try my best. Mostly everything I buy is at shows anyways..Indie bands...and a lot of older post punk stuff, etc. I tend to view music as art and the stuff on the radio for the most part is not art.
Seriously though, what to they care if some one copies a Ricky Martin song, no one is even buying it.
Also, Much of the stuff I have downloaded are things that are out of print, thus I feel if it is not for sale in the first place, I have a right to get it for free, ya know.
Heh, yeah, I forgot to put a comma before the word "fucker", and I think "fucker" should have been a proper noun in this case. Sorry for my poor grammer, in all my rage I wasn't paying attention to it like I should have.:)
As for sex with computer equipment, well, when I saw that new Rage 9000 pro, I have to admit I got a bit...ummm....excited?
"Those profits gets taxed and the US gov then makes a profit."
I see your point, and I wouldn't expect the USA to do that (help create a standard), but I paid more taxes last year than MS. I don't have a link, but it's well documented they generally pay no taxes. They write everything off. What the governmtn does get however are HUGE campaign contributions to the Republican party and a tidy amount to the Democrats as well.
For such things like an office application? If the government REALLY wanted to help stop the monopoly of MS without shutting them down, perhaps an internation standard should be set for word processing documents etc. that governments use exclusivly. This way, others could compete with MS in the office and MS would have to implement these standards thus allowing competiton.
Perhaps it's wishful thinking, and I just don't see it ever happening, but it would be nice to set a standard, updated every year, that people would prefer. Call it the Unified Office Architecture or something.
They at least know Linux IS a threat to them. This has been said 1,000,000 here so I won't go further but another point I will make is that you would think the same Government in the USA that may be getting free software from Microsoft due to the competition of Linux would also say Microsoft is not a threat. It proves, once again, that competition is good and I cannot believe the government would not try and give technoligies every advantage such as Linux more help by seeing MS is a monopoly, considering THEY may get free software out of it.
Not to mention, if MS can afford to give away their software for free, there has to be some anti-trust involved here. I though there were laws stopping a huge company from selling their products at a loss, or even free, to stop the competiton?

As far as the Apple Music store goes, I cannot wait until they get some indie music. I don't really listen to the radio, except for college radio and like mainly things not played on commercial formats. I also enjoy a lot of older music...bands like Wire, The Clean, The Chills and a lot of mod type things.
I hope the Apple music store works out, I see it as a more revolutionary concept than most. Sure, others have done it, but once again Apple has done it right where others missed thew point. It's so easy to use, you can sample ALL the music, buy the music a' la carte' and buy the whole album for a fair $9.99 Sounds like a plan to me. Also, it has the ability to allow poor muscians to have a GLOBAL store to sell their music on, if Apple is cool enough to see this. Apple also has the benefit that a good chunk of it's user base are nuts and throw money at them at every oppurtunity. My theroy on this is that we aren't stupid, but feal we as Apple consumers get tons of great things if we all chip in a bit. They have such a trust form their customers, it's amazing...it really is almost a cult, but more of a community. It's fun to be a part of.
As far as Apple fighting for me, sort of...they have the power and the balls to try someting new and get people moving. But, they won't do it because they care so much about civil liberties, so long as it is profitable to "fight" for us.
Anyways, my point about paying for music is true for anythng. We Americans, and probably most of the consumer world just LOVE to spend money on things. It's funny really.

Yup, that's what my brother does. Well, he works at Miller...does that count?
