  1. Change on Demo For NASA MMO Coming In January · · Score: 3, Insightful

Now this is the America I've come to expect: NASA is starting to make games about going into space instead of actually going into space. I'm sure some self-proclaimed 'Gen-Y expert" marketer somewhere is nodding and chuckling to himself while stroking a white cat nestled in his lap.

  2. Furthering the death of eBay on IRS To Go After eBay Sellers · · Score: 1

As if eBay doesn't have enough problems these days with Nigerian scammers and Chinese counterfeiters, now the IRS wants to remove the last shred of joy from selling on the auction site. Not that it's inappropriate -- sales are sales and income is income -- but I'm curious to see if eBay is even around in its current form by the end of 2008.

  4. This guy's a terrorist! on Using Google Maps With a Photo Album · · Score: 1
I mean, look at where he took pictures in the US...only at the borders...where terrorists can enter the country!

Either that or he realized all those photos of Kansas really were not too interesting...

  5. Would be easier to just use sound waves. on Using Radio Waves to Detect Explosives · · Score: 1
Beat the hell out of the bag. If you hear a "kaboom" (where's the kaboom? there's supposed to be an earth-shattering kaboom!), then there was a bomb in it. Simple.

Also helps greatly reduce the volume of checked and carry-on luggage.

  6. This is an excellent idea... on Global Collaborative Music Experiment · · Score: 4, Insightful
...because everyone knows the REAL reason there's not as much high-quality music as there should be is that musicians spend way too much time trying to make it enjoyable and interesting.

Yep...speeding up that process is without a doubt the best way to improve what bands few have ever heard of produce.

    -1 Cynical

  7. A sensible way to measure popularity on Download Only Song to Crack the Top 40 · · Score: 2, Insightful
I had no idea the Brits were so forward-thinking in this area.

Of course, the RIAA would never agree to legitimizing downloads like that...at least not until several more management changes happen and they get someone in their leadership who's actually owned an iPod.

  8. Re:It's only 60% (ish) on Cringely's 2006 Results, 2007 Predictions · · Score: 1
I give him a fiar bit of credit: 60% is better than my own 50% from last year's predictions, so Cringely wins the Bob v. Craig Prognostication-Off once again.

Maybe 2007's forecast will fare better.

I know it's not a cat...I just enjoy the word "marmoset" (which, still being an animal, fits fine in a made-up list of nonsensical and/or imaginary software codenames).

But beyond that, what compells you to correct some arbitrary person's joke in a forum? There are lots of hobbies out there -- skydiving, stamp collecting, pedophilia -- that may be a better use of your time, no? ;-)

Leopard isn't designed to kill Microsoft or Dell.

    That's the job of Puma.

Then Ocelot will take out HP.

Marmoset, once released, will end IBM.

Finally, Mr. Whiskers Boddington (the name of Jobs' childhood cat) will make Google irrelevant.

Then we'll get those full-screen iPods everyone's been wanting. wheeee

  16. Oh good... on Stream MythTV to Your Cell Phone · · Score: 3, Insightful
Our access is becoming more and more universal just as the amount of watchable content on TV becomes less and less.

I'd prefer a truly rich web experience on my phone WAY more than streaming TV garbage.

  17. Re:Are artists the actual problem, here? on RIAA Sues XM Satellite Radio · · Score: 1

Payola is a problem primarily involving labels and radio stations/corporations -- it has nothing (or little) to do with the RIAA.

  18. Are artists the actual problem, here? on RIAA Sues XM Satellite Radio · · Score: 1
The RIAA supposedly represents artists. If artists stopped being willing to be represented by the RIAA, the RIAA would stop being able to sue, as it would have no material interest in these cases (i.e., it was not subject to actual harm).

So, maybe it's time that we started letting our favorite artists know that unless they break ties with this ridiculous farce of an organization, we simply will not provide them with any income by buying their music or attending their concerts.

  20. This only matters if you care. on Golf's Digital Divide · · Score: 1
Golf is best played as a social activity, where one's score is used only to compare the golfer with himself.

If you're so competitive that you have to "beat" other golfers (let alone spending thousands of dollars to do so), it's time for you to take up an actual sport. You know, where you break a sweat...or at least have to walk from one point on the playing surface to another.
