Tell your local truckdriver that from now on he has to build his own roads and lets see how long he stays competitive.

No way am I telling that to the hairy, smelly truckdriver. Or her husband.

Slight difference in the scenarios: we pay collectively for our roads via rego and petrol taxes*, and we pay individually to purchase cars and keep them running. Rail users' fares do not pay for the capital costs of the track and only cover 25% of the running costs.

*(My federal government introduced a special tax years ago to make our fuel as expensive as everyone else's and they promised that the tax collected would fund 100% major road infrastructure. Consolidated revenue? What's that?)

Here in my home state, the state government subsidises train travel so the commuters only pay about 25% of the actual value of a rail ticket, a subsidy that's rarely spoken of. And still the commuters whinge about the "high cost of train travel".

It's a joke that can be taken in one of two similar, yet different, ways.
    1. You make beer, but you produce urine.
    2. The way you originally phrased it ("All the beer I drink and produce goes into glass bottles.") conjures up an image of you drinking a full bottle at the top and filling up an empty at about waist height. If you did do that, you'd probably be working for the XXXX Brewing company. That stuff tastes horrible.

Hyperhaplo's attempted joke at your expense would have worked better in front of a group of real people, accompanied by actions. Internet sux for this stuff.

I saw a video of something similar in which a black man ran from the back, grabbed a bag and bolted. And, yes, eyewitness accounts varied wildly. They also varied according to the colour of the witness.

White witnesses would describe the man as "black" whereas black people would be more descriptive (light black etc).

  13. Needs wide integration on Melbourne College May Give iPad To Every Student · · Score: 1

I own an iPad and think it's great, but in order to use one effectively in an environment like a large institution, it needs to be integrated. Textbooks on an iPad? Great... do they have them yet? Does the College have apps written that take the place of, say, campus info guides etc. Until things like that can be addressed, it's not really going to add anything.

It'll be interesting to see what peripherals come out for T-Bolt - like someone above said, pro video is the target market for this. Right now, a MBP can give you attachment to superfast storage OR pro monitoring OR pro capture, but not all at once. T-bolt will change all of that.

Everyone else will just buy a T-bolt to USB3 adaptor for their Western Digital external HD.
