  1. Not well thought out if you need everyone to agree on Shawn Fanning's New Venture · · Score: 3, Insightful

"It's a pretty well thought-out idea, but the success of it hinges on everybody in the ecosystem getting involved,"

Sounds like all those well thought-out ideas to stop spam, that simply need everyone to agree on something new.

  3. Re:economics on Gabriel and Eno Start Digital Music Artist Union · · Score: 1

When performers no longer need the distribution and advertising services they provide, RIAA and the big labels will go away, or at least shrink to manageable size.

I think we are getting pretty close to the distribution channels they provide no longer being necessary. The internet has done a lot to help solve that problem. It's a lot easier to do with music, than many other things, say books for example. There is no (practicle) iPod for book.

Advertising, on the other hand, will always require a lot of money :(

But, sadly, I did get sucked into the Harry Potter series, now I live in terror that JKR will get hit by a bus before she finishes. Or worse, what must be tempting in her position, she takes the money and runs away from the pressure of it all.
