I'm stuck with Bell Canada who has me capped at 66GB a month. (I know I know - tekksaavy etc. I'll be switching later this summer...) 77TB is almost a fuckton of data. (At least metric, where 10TB is a shitload, and 10 shitloads = fuckton) It might be different in the states, I dunno. I need some coffee...
I've replaced all the lights in my living room, dining room and kitchen with soft white LED lights from Philips. They're expensive (about $22 a pop) but they look JUST FINE, they last for years, and they dim very nicely, and I don't see what the problem is.
If he was innocent, he'd have said so right out of the gate. He did no such thing. He attacked the messenger. Since the video allegation surfaced, he's been silent on the whole thing. His second in command suggested that videos can be faked, and while photoshop is very good at faking convincing photos, faking a video is really really hard. And expensive. I pointed at the failure of that defence. Ford went into some diatribe over how he's being persecuted by the press. Which of course obfuscates the question - did he or did he not smoke crack with Somali drugs dealers? Judging by his evasive non-answers and the eyewitnessing of the video by Gawker and The Star who all stated it looked very real, I think Mr Ford has a lot of splainin' to do....
Because in every other aspect of his reign as mayor, he's been a belligerent, buffoonish, jack ass of a right wing dick wad. Even among right wing dickwads, he's an exceptionally dickish one.
It's file sharing. Piracy is the kind of stuff the next Tom Hanks movie is all about. Killing people. Brutality. That's piracy. Some educator uploading educational materials or some 12 year old in his mommy's basement downloading Katy Perry's bilge is NOT piracy. By letting the proprietarians label it as piracy, and then taking the LGBT tack of "owning the epithet" has been a complete failure. We need to call it what it is: file sharing, and demand that others call it that as well. Abandon notions of piracy and enter the next phase of human information distribution, and the access to knowledge it provides. Because It's The Right Thing To Do.
There won't be a $499 student version. Our department is flipping out - if you think the small fry designer is getting screwed on this, it ain't nothing compared to academia seat licensing. The last I heard was Adobe wants to shake us down for $587,000 ***A YEAR***.
We feel screwed. Pros use Adobe software, but where the fuck are we going to get the $$$ for that? The administration is saying they want to download the expense to the departments. That would be catastrophic to our already stretched budgets. My guess is we'll bite the bullet for a year while we scramble to find alternatives. Photoshop will be hard to get around...
The Web however, is fucking toast. As a portion of web traffic the WWW is a shrinking percentage. The web no longer has your interests at heart. It is now just a conduit, like the phone lines used to be. It's mostly filled with video data and stupid "phone home" bullshit, where a jillion smartphones report their position every few seconds, etc. So, no, the internet is far from dead. The Web however is a dying beast.
I agree. I tihnk one of the biggest problems with TPB is its irony and intellectual dishonesty. File sharing is file sharing. CALL IT FILE SHARING YOU STUPID FUCKS. It is not Piracy. Piracy is a naval thing where people from one boat invade another, rape the women, then kill everyone, take anything of value and then set the boat on fire and send it and anyone left alive down to Davy Jone's Locker (and I ain't talkin' about David Bowie or the singer from the Monkees). THAT is Piracy. Some 12 year old in his mom's basement sharing files of crappy mp3s by Katy Perry is NOT A PIRATE. He is sharing files. He cares enough about the stuff that he wants to share it. Sharing is an act of generosity and and affiliation. When TPB and the Pirate Party took a page from the LGBT movement and adopted epithets as their badge, they made a critical fumble, as the ability to philosophically shift to a position of genrosity and giving is basically impossible when you've taken on such a deeply violent and ugly title as Pirate.
So, yes, they need to come up with a positive name that gets at the heart of the matter, that sharing is caring, and digital data is fundamentally different in nature from analogue.

When Amazon buys sears not for their retail system but for their IT infrastructure....

It's fairly similar reasons why the Ford Video is real, and explains why His Immensity hasn't had anything to say since the story broke.
It all depends on how fast Facebook collapses.

Because only 100,000 people live up there, an area 3/5 the size of the USA....
(I live in Toronto, and I've been north. It's pretty much devoid of people up there...)
Google+ might have some hold on me, but I don't and it doesn't, so what exactly seems to be the problem?
it'll be just like a porn site, only without the porn.
If your department is training the next generation of creative media professionals, FUCK YES we need Photoshop.
How long will it take for a crack to be build such that everytime you fire up an Adobe App, it gets what it believes to be an OK from the mothership?
