    I love the way that, especially in Europe, people who live in moderate climates suggest that nobody should be using air conditioning. I would love to see you move to a hot, humid climate, and watch you in pathetic misery as you drown in your own sweat.

    You dumb bastard, you've got it the wrong way round. The only reason you do live there is because of AC. Florida was a shitty swamp populated by nothing more than alligators, mosquitoes and a few crazy fishermen before AC became easy and cheap.

    They do not provide anything on their own. No service, no infrastructure, no protocol on an existing infrastructure. Instead they are using the infrastructure that exists because of the telephone carriers as a club to beat them to death. Interestingly enough, if Vonage ever really succeeds and Sprint or Verizon shuts their doors, Vonage loses.

    Not really. The infrastructure will still be there, and still be worth something, so somebody will buy it and Vonage will use it. Hell, maybe Vonage will end up buying it.

    Heh, if that ever happened, I might actually start believing in capitalism!

    Whoah! You're missing the point. Yes, having an iPod doesn't make you any smarter than the last generation, but it does make you faster, and that seems to be what he's talking about. Today's kids are still to a large extent being educated in an infrastructure and curriculum that predates nuclear power, let alone the internet. It's silly to think that education shouldn't progress either.

    Theoretically, anyone who is a citizen of a commonwealth realm or the UK is the property of the monarch.

    Man, you non-commonwealth people get in such a twist over this. Theoretically, yes, you are the property of the monarch. But this is a relationship that has evolved heavily in the last few hundred years. The way it works in practice is that all due surface reverence is applied, but when it comes down to brass tacks, the monarchy is utterly ignored.

    Simply put, if the Queen wished to actually exercise these theoretical powers, she'd be out on her ass. Read a little UK constitutional law if you don't believe me.
