My personal finances are none of their business. Only one time did this become an issue. The company insisted they needed to do the credit check and it was a condition of employment. At this point I told them I was no longer interested in working for them and that I would be reporting them to the labor board.
If someone wanted a plan to completely destroy the US economy, they could save time by simply adopting the Kyoto protocols. Not only would it have crippled us, it gave the number one polluter in the world, China, a complete pass. No wonder the senate voted almost unaminously against it.

While I'm shopping around for backers, company Slime Inc starts making and selling my widget without my permission. Unfortunately, I don't have the finances needed to take them in court. However, Big Corp, Inc offers to license the widget and deal with the lawsuits if they get a five year exclusive. The licensing fee they will pay me are quite reasonable so we both win. Except under your rule, I can't do it since I can't give preferential licensing to any company. Big Corp won't do it without the exclusive because of the cost of the lawsuit they must initiate. Instead, they'll just sit it out for a year and watch my patent get revoked for failing to defend the license. Then they'll start making the widget without having to pay me a dime. In the end, Slime, Inc and Big Corp, Inc both get to make my widget and I get nothing. Good plan you have there.

It insists that the origin must always be where it thinks I am. So that means I can't look up flights for a friend who is currently in Hawaii.

The last time I saw a checkpoint in my neighborhood I used an alternate route home. Not because I was drunk. I hadn't had a drop of alcohol. It was because I didn't wish to have 30 minutes of my time wasted for the purpose of having my rights violated.
I took it down a year ago. The basic summary of what I posted (and all true) was my ex-wife let her 15 year old daughter (my former step-daughter) drink, do drugs, not go to school, and hang out with a 23 year old guy who was farking her and giving her drugs. This was in response to her posting that I had been convicted of a violent crime. I hadn't even been charged with any crime. The worse thing on my record is a well deserved speeding ticket from a few years ago.
My ex-wife made the mistake of being a bitch and posting false statements about me. They bordered on libel, but not enough to be worth suing over. Instead, I posted a few things about her that were not at all good for her image but were 100% true. Shortly thereafter googling her name resulted in that post being in the #`1 spot. She threw a hissy fit and threatened to sue me for libel, defamation, etc. I told her to point out any false statements and I would be happy to remove them. I also told her to feel free to sue. She didn't bother to take it any further.
If she hadn't started the hate-fest I would not have made public postings about her.
They don't lock out content from the kindle. I've bought ebooks directly from Baen and had no problems dropping into my Kindle. I also loaded the Perl manual onto my Kindle.
Calling for a boycott is damn stupid. Each restaurant is separately owned. If you boycott your local franchise, you are only hurting someone who has absolutely no control or say over what happened.
