I've crossed out and initialed things in the employment contracts several times in the past. Most noticably, the clause that says I won't work in the field for x years after leaving them. It's not enforceable in the state of California so has no business being in the contract. I've never had a problem doing this. I also refuse to let them do a credit check. My personal finances are none of their business. Only one time did this become an issue. The company insisted they needed to do the credit check and it was a condition of employment. At this point I told them I was no longer interested in working for them and that I would be reporting them to the labor board.
If someone wanted a plan to completely destroy the US economy, they could save time by simply adopting the Kyoto protocols. Not only would it have crippled us, it gave the number one polluter in the world, China, a complete pass. No wonder the senate voted almost unaminously against it.
We have some of the strictest environmental laws in the world. China, on the other hand, seems to be in a contest to see how quickly they can destroy the planet.
The funny thing is that most Tea Party people are also for all of that. It is in the politicians interest to keep us divided, however. If the public ever wakes up and realizes that the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street want the same thing, the party in Washington is OVER.
When the Tea Party first started getting noticed, I liked their message. Then the fundies started to take over and they started to look like just another republican shill group. If they would have stuck to their core message and kept out the religous overtones I might have stayed interested. Unfortunately, the anti-abortion, prayer in school, America is a Christian nation shit turns me off.
As for the OWS movement. A similar story. Their core message is one I agree with. Unfortunately, morons with Che t-shirts holding pro-communist signs only tell me who's ass needs to be kicked.
Your suggestion isn't reasonable and would punish the patent holder.
I invent a widget and get a patent. It's a very cool widget and has the potential to make some serious bank, but making it in quantity will require some specialized manufacturing capabilities. While I'm shopping around for backers, company Slime Inc starts making and selling my widget without my permission. Unfortunately, I don't have the finances needed to take them in court. However, Big Corp, Inc offers to license the widget and deal with the lawsuits if they get a five year exclusive. The licensing fee they will pay me are quite reasonable so we both win. Except under your rule, I can't do it since I can't give preferential licensing to any company. Big Corp won't do it without the exclusive because of the cost of the lawsuit they must initiate. Instead, they'll just sit it out for a year and watch my patent get revoked for failing to defend the license. Then they'll start making the widget without having to pay me a dime. In the end, Slime, Inc and Big Corp, Inc both get to make my widget and I get nothing. Good plan you have there.
The state of California is populated with a bunch of morons who keep trying to vote themselves unicorns and rainbows and the idiots in Sacramento don't have the balls to actually do their jobs so the budget never gets balanced and the taxes keep going up. California has the highest overall taxes in the entire country. One of the highest state income taxes (about 9%), one of the highest sales taxes (about 8%), one of the highest corporate taxes (about 9%), and excessive fees for just about everything. Because so much money is predestined for someone's pet project (because of stupid ballot initiatives), there will NEVER be enough money to pay for the necessities. The train is just par for the course. The initial track will connect two places that no one in their right mind ever wants to go to, and the remainder will probably not be built in our lifetime.
I was born and raised in California. I'm still here because I'm a tech worker and this is where most of the tech jobs are concentrated. I've watched my state get shoved into the waste bucket by the people who live here and am sick of this shit. For years I've lived by a simple rule when it comes to the ballot. I vote no for anything that forcibly allocates money. No exceptions. I also vote no on all bond measures as I do not believe it is moral to pass the big fucking bill to our children. I also vote no on all tax increases because we're already paying too much (see above).
And grinding is damn annoying to casual players such as myself. I would like to go after the lich king, but my gear sucks. Even at the max level of 85, I get my ass handed to me. In the group I'm usually the first to die because of my gear (being a mage doesn't help, either). I do not want to run through the same dungeons a hundred times hoping for an epic drop that might give me a slight improvement in stats because that is boring. I will say, however, that WoW's reliance on gear is a whole lot better than Diablo 2, where gear was the only thing that mattered.
Google may say Don't Be Evil, but how do such flaming Liberals define Evil to start with?
I spent a year at Google as a contractor and was considered by many to be a raving right-wing fundie nut job -- because my politics are rather middle of the road independent. The definition of "evil" for the flaming liberals at Google is "anything that isn't my belief", with the exception that Google could do no wrong.
A resource is printer paper and pens. It can be purchased in a retail store, or bought in large quantities from an office supplier. If you call the people who work for you "resources", you do not respect them as people. I do not wish to work for you because I am not a resource.
I just tried to do a quick check and it won't let me do a thing. I want to check for flights from Maui, HI, to San Francisco, CA. It won't let me change the origin. It insists that the origin must always be where it thinks I am. So that means I can't look up flights for a friend who is currently in Hawaii.
Whatever they paid for this abortion of a web service, it was too much.
A co-worker is from Pakistan. He wasn't surprised the government is trying this crap. When I joked that they'll blame the Jews when the law is a complete failure, his response was, "of course they'll blame the Jews. They blame them for everything."
What innocent person are you talking about? Geohot was in no way an innocent person. He released copyrighted material to the public. The immediate result of his actions was the release of multiple hacks that rendered several very popular online games completely unplayable. The anime-fapping crowd immediately got in an uproar and defended his actions because they wanted OtherOS back. Never mind that they didn't even use OtherOS (almost nobody used that feature) and wouldn't miss it. They just wanted an excuse to throw a hissy fit and justify a DDoS that prevented millions of people from using their PS3s.
That was in 1948. What is happening today? In case you haven't noticed, Israel has done everything they could to bring peace to the region. They gave up large tracts of land hoping it would bring peace. It didn't. The terrorist simply moved their rocket launch points up to the new borders.
Sony is not preventing you from doing what you want with your own equipment. They are, however, actively preventing anyone running a hacked box on PSN. Feel free to mess with your PS3 all you want. Just don't make it public, don't connect it to PSN, and don't release a hack. Geohot made multiple mistakes. He's a major attention whore for starters. He just had to be the center of attention. Then he released enough info that multiple games became unplayable in a matter of days because they were overrun with cheaters and account hackers. Sony mostly responded properly. They started banning accounts when hacked boxes were detected. I'm a bit unsure if going after geohot was a good idea.
The douchebags who wanted to cheat and steal games reacted exactly as expected. Like small children they threw a temper tantrum and attempted to DDoS Sony. They said they weren't going after PSN, but that's a lie. They went after PSN big time. They failed, though. Their attacks were about the level of a fly buzzing in the room. A bit irritating, but nothing to be too concerned about. Just get out the flyswatter and deal with it.
The last time I saw a checkpoint in my neighborhood I used an alternate route home. Not because I was drunk. I hadn't had a drop of alcohol. It was because I didn't wish to have 30 minutes of my time wasted for the purpose of having my rights violated.
I took it down a year ago. The basic summary of what I posted (and all true) was my ex-wife let her 15 year old daughter (my former step-daughter) drink, do drugs, not go to school, and hang out with a 23 year old guy who was farking her and giving her drugs. This was in response to her posting that I had been convicted of a violent crime. I hadn't even been charged with any crime. The worse thing on my record is a well deserved speeding ticket from a few years ago.
My ex-wife made the mistake of being a bitch and posting false statements about me. They bordered on libel, but not enough to be worth suing over. Instead, I posted a few things about her that were not at all good for her image but were 100% true. Shortly thereafter googling her name resulted in that post being in the #`1 spot. She threw a hissy fit and threatened to sue me for libel, defamation, etc. I told her to point out any false statements and I would be happy to remove them. I also told her to feel free to sue. She didn't bother to take it any further.
If she hadn't started the hate-fest I would not have made public postings about her.
They don't lock out content from the kindle. I've bought ebooks directly from Baen and had no problems dropping into my Kindle. I also loaded the Perl manual onto my Kindle.
Calling for a boycott is damn stupid. Each restaurant is separately owned. If you boycott your local franchise, you are only hurting someone who has absolutely no control or say over what happened.

Jersey Show is still on the air and Firefly was canceled in the middle of the first season.

If they didn't want to get arrested, they should have secured their servers.

There are criminal statutes that cover violations:

There are more.
You say that like it's a bad thing. I wish Chomsky was barred from entering the USA.

Did the Israelis make any threat based on where he spoke? Nope. So he bends over and takes one from a group of closed minded, terrorist assholes.
I'm sure the sock puppets for the terrorists will somehow find a way to blame "the joos" for this.
I bought a Nook Color for the sole reason of installing CyanogenMod on it and using it as a general purpose touch pad. Works great.
Now if I could just get a variation of the koi live wallpaper that has piranha that attack your finger whenever you touch the screen.

Sucks for those living in the UK. I'm don't, so no worries.
