That is flat out, 100% WRONG. One of my high school friends was from Cuba. Both his father and his uncle were tortured by the Castro regime because they didn't fight on the "right" side. They were lucky they weren't simply shot, but my friend's dad walked with a severe limp for the rest of his life. And Che was a murdering bastard who had a habit of shooting people he only suspected of not being loyal enough.

Basically, the WTO legal stance (which the US agreed to) is there must be a level playing field. You can not implement protectionist laws such has high tarrifs for imports and subsidies for domestic.

Even when there are plenty of qualified works in a field, businesses love to hire H1B workers for a number of reaons.

    1. Get more qualified people. The job may only require a BA/BS degree of skill, but they can get an MA/MS for the same price.
    2. No worry about threats to quit and leave for a competitor. It's a bitch to get your job visa changed and most companies don't want to bother.
    3. H1B works will work longer hours without bitching for the same reason as #2.
    4. You can skip paying bonuses and giving raises, again, see #2.

So hire an overqualified H1B worker, treat him like shit, don't give him raises or bonuses, and you don't have to worry about them leaving for the competitor. What's not to like? The way to fix this is to make it very easy to change an H1B to a different company. Once the involuntary servitude aspect is removed it will be less likely businesses will abuse the H1B system (it won't eliminate the abuse, just reduce it).

I remember sitting at home without a job while the tech industry was crying to congress that the needed more H1Bs because they couldn't find qualified workers. Fucking lying sacks of shit. This was not long after the tech bubble had burst and threw tens of thousands of us techies out of our jobs.

Oh, the password you meant to use? It's now on the "can not use" list, thus making it even more difficult to remember them.

Our password policy is set by some non-techie middle manager in Tokyo who probably read some lame article ten years ago. Getting a corporate policy changed in Japan is close to impossible, no matter how stupid it is.

Quite the opposite. The less the term/phrase describes the product, the stronger the trademark. Thus, Apple is an excellent name for a computer company, but would probably be rejected if a fruit company tried to use it as a trademark. Microsoft should have been considered a weak trademark, but they got lucky and have the money to fight any attempts to revoke it.

Since Java and coffee really don't have anything to do with computing (other than it being the primary component of geek blood), it's a pretty strong trademark.
