You really don't have a clue of what type of people come out of our military these days, do you?

I'll use a friend of mine as an example. He has two degrees. He was an officer in the army (SpecOps). He is a network engineer, is comfortable in Linux and Windows (prefers Linux) and has a very high government security clearance and the skills to do security audits at _any_ tech company in the country (that's a huge deal). Google didn't hire him.

I recently finished a one year contract at Google. Since leaving, I have said on numerous occasions that google's downfall will be their arrogance. You nailed it perfectly. The mono-culture you mention isn't just in their technical leanings. It's also very much evident in the political leaning of the workforce. Politics is dominated by the extreme left. You aren't supposed to hire based on politics (it's the law), but people are rejected because they "don't fit with the google culture." Google is also failing miserably in hiring military vets. That's a big no-no. I expect them to get in serious trouble for that.

There has also been the rare occasion of steer and horse thefts. Just a little information. A rancher with a shotgun is as common as a rancher with a nose on his face. Nothing to get excited about.

Despite the howls from the far left, Bush didn't actually "lie and people died". Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV (D-W.Va.), chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence, own report proves that. For example,

    • On Iraq's nuclear weapons program? The president's statements "were generally substantiated by intelligence community estimates."
    • On biological weapons, production capability and those infamous mobile laboratories? The president's statements "were substantiated by intelligence information."
    • On chemical weapons, then? "Substantiated by intelligence information."
    • On weapons of mass destruction overall? "Generally substantiated by intelligence information."

The list goes on, and Rockfeller's committee could only say, over and over, "Generally substantiated by intelligence information," though there was some exaggeration (which isn't the same as a lie).

HOWEVER! Spying on citizens, arresting and holding without probable cause or a trial, wiretapping -- basically using our Constitution to wipe his ass -- now that's a good enough reason to impeach him and the majority of assholes sitting on their fat asses in Washington DC (both Democrats and Republicans).

While my own family was certainly far different from the one I grew up in, one night a week as a family was not an unreasonable expectation. I wasn't trying to enforce "fun". I was trying to build some family unity and the once a week dinner's purpose was a first attempt at that.

I don't consider Islam to be any more dangerous than Christianity.

Perhaps you simply aren't paying attention to world events. In the past ten years how many terrorist attacks have been instigated by religions other than islam? I can't think of any, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was one or two. In the past ten years how many times have there been islamic terrorist attacks? More than 10,000.

Here's another quiz for you. When someone sticks a crusifix in a glass of piss and calls it art, what happens? Denouncements by christian religious leaders and some peaceful protests. When the equivalent is done to islam (e.g. cartoons), what happens? Weeks of riots with much property destruction and many deaths.

Yet another quiz. A deranged christian man attacks someone and is killed by police, what happens? Religious leaders express their regret of the incident and wish something could have been done to prevent it. When a deranged islamic man attacks a police officer with a knife and is shot dead, what happens? Weeks of riots with much property destruction and several deaths.

How about the recent rescue of a kidnapped (for forced conversion to islam and marriage) teenage christian girl in Somalia? Weeks of rioting by the islamics with much property destruction and several deaths.

Are you starting to see a pattern?

The religious texts are very similar (in fact, a lot of the religious texts are the same) and the standard teachings of peace and love are also identical.

No, they aren't similar. I don't remember the christian bible telling you to kill non-believers, rape their wives, and enslave their children, but this is in the koran. There is no room for "peace and love" for people of other faiths in islam.

I know how you feel. A couple of years ago (when I was still married), I tried to get one evening meal a week as family time. The three of us were to sit down to dinner at the table all at the same time. The t.v. would be off. No answering the phone, making calls, or running to the computer to check for messages. It was a simple request. My ex-wife wasn't helpful with this. My former step-daughter simply refused to sit at the table (teenagers are generally assholes) and my ex-wife enabled her by allowing her to eat in her room. That's when I stopped buying groceries (no, that's not why I'm now divorced).

These days I eat dinner quite often with some friends. Most of the time it's very casual and we have the t.v. turned on (usually one of the sci fi shows). On occasion, however, it's a little more formal and we sit at the dinning room table with the t.v. off. Cell phones tend to remain on, though, because half of us are system administrators.
