Everyone, the retailers, the talent, the consumers, are starting to realize that when the record industry bent them over the desk for a serious buggering, it turned out to not be as nice as they promised. It is, in fact, a bit of a pain.

The standard procedure when a box won't even post is to remove everything, drives, memory, video cards, etc and boot it up. If it posts (listen to the beep), start adding crap back in, one at a time. It can be tedious, but it usually (not always) isolates the problem.

Instead of some future great Chinese poet writing something in an unknown dialect, he will write it in Mandarin, or possibly even English.

Back in my day, you had to stoke up the furnace to generate the steam before you could add two numbers together! And I had to walk to school five miles, up hill, both ways, in a blizzard... sorry, I digressed. Habeas Corpus is an inherent right for all humans that we must demand to keep fully removed from any government's desire to remove it or restrain it.

This is something I've always believed in rather strongly. Our Founding Fathers believed everyone was born with certain rights that could not be taken away by the government and the most important purpose of the government is to protect these rights. Whether the rights are "God Given" or "Natural" are left up to the individual to decide.

However, it is not the duty of our government to protect the rights of non-citizens outside of this country. That would be right bloody mess as it would require us to invade every country in the world that violated our Constitution. Er. Uh, oh.

"It's not his job to be those kids mom". Yep, you are right. So mom could lie and say he got good grades, or just buy her idiot son (with a promising future in the fast food service industry) the latest game. Problem solved.

I don't have a problem with what he was doing, though I think he would have been in a better position to offer discounts for good grades.

I also don't have a problem with certain types of games requiring an adult to purchase them. Again, it's not the store deciding if the kid gets the game or not. The parent will make the ultimate decision. Without the limitation, the parent doesn't get any say.

Oh, for you idiot teenagers with mod points today that will be modding me down as flamebait or a troll. Kiss my ass. You'll have kids one day. Your entire attitude will change.

Software is like a book. You can give away a book. You can loan a book. You can sell a book. All perfectly legal and the publisher can't do a damn thing about it. That's the law. Someone the software industry thinks they are special. If it was a custom package you hired a firm specifically to write for you, the contract could include some weird limitations (and you were an idiot for allowing that crap in the contract), but over the counter software is sold in the same manner as a book and falls under the same "first sale doctrine."

You say there's a license included with the software? So f*ing what. You can't be held to a contract you could not read before making the purchase. Take it home, open the package, and read the contract, you say? And? You've already paid for it. You can't apply a new contract to a deal that's already done (unless you are dumb enough to accept it). Plus, even if you read it and didn't like the contract (license), good luck returning the software. Nobody takes back software. The last time I tried the store (Best Buy) flat out refused.
