    I've always thought servers and even desktops should have at least 10 seconds of buffered power along with a decent voltage regulator. At the very least it should be a common option.

    I thought it was notable that power flickered off for about a half second last spring and everything in the house reset except my iMac (White, C2D) which even blink. Anuone else have a similar experience?

    Now I use Linux on a headless box to manage my network connections but even that took some doing. The difference in difficulty in setting up a Linux box and a Mac is often quite clear. Sometimes linux is easy to set up. Sometimes it "Just Works" but I think we need to get that up to like 90% of the time.

    I'm a big fan of Linux but there's some pretty obvious deficiencies and many Linux aficionados are often the first to pull the so-what-it-shouldn't-be-easy-but-there's-a-way-to-do-it-from-the-CLI. I want Linux to become a mainstream desktop OS.

    My MacBook is around 18 months and I can still squeeze 4 solid hours out at high brightness with WiFi and web browsing. That's pretty much the only reason I keep it around ;)

    You might hit up some forums about toshiba battery life. Unless you just wanna stay plugged in (as many do), then you should be fine.

    Monster Cable sells a Platinum Plated Metric to Imperial Ethernet Converter. Use it to browse all the over seas websites. Not cheap though.

    Wildblue ping times are typically ~1sec. I'd guess the at sd=2 you're out to 600ms to 1400ms. No lies.
