    In some of the previous versions of the web jailbreak, they would also patch the bug after jailbreaking.

    Not sure about the current jailbreak, but in the previous case, you were left with a more secure phone than with the firmware offered by apple.

    but if you're seeing red shift on stuff that took 9 billion years to reach you, isn't it possible for the universe to have expanded for 8 billion years, then now it's collapsing at the speed of light - and you wouldn't have any way of telling it's reversed course?

    If we're looking at the light source from something that was emitted 9 billion light years ago, how do we know the universe is still expanding? Isn't it possible the universe quit expanding and has been shrinking for the last few billion years? Would we even know about it if it was shrinking at the speed of light? What abou... [no carrier]

    I will be happy to see anything that looks like a CDROM go away. They are far too easily damaged. Put games on a thumbdrive for all I care. I just want reliability from media.

    md5 in my company (very large multinational corp) is a big no-no. We can't use it. SHA1 is what everything had to be hashed with.

    I don't think they care.

    Every unit sony sold, sony lost money on.

    Every unit sold that wasn't purchased with the intent to play games on, sony lost projected income on.

    Either way you look at it, sony will be glad to have rid themselves of those kinds of people.

    Their initial pricing of $99 will be dropped if they find that the demand isn't there.

    I wouldn't buy it for any price higher than $35. It isn't worth that much, but I think their price point is to compete with their stand alone products. They would not want to cannibalize their own products especially given the userbase of the iPhone.

    You make good points, but by the same logic, I could say that I want a phone that does only phone calls, to save wear and tear on my mp3 player. I could also say I want a palm pilot for a PDA. And a dedicated PVP for video on the go.

    In the end, you will have a dozen digital devices, when you could have done it with just one.

    That is a good thing. And you can raise taxes accordingly. This helps not only raise money, but also punishes fuel inefficient vehicles. I like this approach much better than the $4500 reward they're giving to people for making poor choices in life.

    Lucky for us, the necessity of physical media is quickly going the way of the Dinosaur. Why would we ever need a physical disk to insert into our digital players? It makes no sense.

    The thing with the kindle is that it includes "free" online access to locate and deliver books. so you can be anywhere and look for and purchase a new book. the book is then delivered to your kindle.

    most other ebooks are just displays.

    I think until there is any significant threat to kindle, you're going to see the price stay high.

    good idea. 1 cent for them, 40 cents for the transaction fee. You really need to jump to $5+ to make it worthwhile. So how long do you think it will take an average user to hit 500 wikipedia searches? I don't know if I've ever visited that many pages.

    yes, the ultra portable market. That's exactly where Sony kills the consumer with their pricing. An EEE PC branded with the Sony name would likely cost you $1499 or more.

    There's more to it than that.

    While 5% are using 50% of the total bandwidth, no one wants to watch the quotas and worry about going over the limit when they download a streaming video. This change should effect far more than the 5%

    the only problem with your neighbor choosing to go after the easy deal is that if they manage to shut out the competition, and they quit dealing in his neighborhood, one year from now, he'll be getting the regular priced plan, and that plan might cost more than he used to pay

    IRCSeek's activities aren't anything new.

    In the past we've had bots by google do similar, bots from ChatScan, and bots from IRCIrchiver, among others.

    The thing about this incarnation is that they're aware they're going to be banned, so they're using TOR to proxy their bots online with no means to identify them. Then the bots sit in channels logging without notifying anyone of their activities.

    It appears to be intentionally underhanded.

    It's not about hiding. I am all for open goverment and no secret. The issue here is that any information released about how we deal with the terrorist suspects, are then used in their training camps. So our methods will not be effective and they know how far and what we will do to them once captured.
