Ebay has a huge userbase, but they have a lot of unhappy customers. When combined with the number of people who have been screwed over due to paypal issues, rising ebay fees, I don't think it's too far off base to discount google.
Consider that only a few years ago no one thought much of google and altavista was king.
Many dislike ebay, but have no alternative that has nearly as many users. google not only has the name brand, but the search engine - one that even ebay uses to draw in users.
Look at Ubuntu. I can take the install cd, and get a blank desktop up and running with no configuration. It will be able to get online, browse the web, and do word processing.
You can even install software without console (apt-get).
I managed to get my wife to run Ubuntu for several weeks without complaint. She ended up switching back to windows only because she had to use illustrator, photoshop, etc. This was before I started using Crossover Office, which runs these programs on Linux with few issues.
it's based on wine, as is cegega (for directx games) and will run your photoshop, excel, word, msie, etc. without a lot of the overhead that vmware has.
actually, they do it so that they can charge lower prices in some areas than others, and prevent people from the higher priced areas from buying overseas.
I currently get about 3-4 hours play time on 2100mah batts. But this is a short term issue due to:
1) The cpus are both going at full processor speed. They should turn off or throttle down when not in use.
2) TV out is also always running and using up power.
These are firmware issues, and they claim sometime in Jan the 5th firmware upgrade will be out.
For $179, I can watch movies, music, play several different consoles (Right now we have 100% functional sega genesis, gameboy, not bad for the first 2 weeks. PSX and SNES are partially functional)

I'm not sure I follow. Are you saying that video rentals will no longer be possible with Blu-ray?
I think you're mixing up two things into one category.
The strain of being overworked is a physical trait - there is no reason why a computer would have to be subject to that in order to achive true "AI"
I also think you're mixing in chemical balances in the human mind... things like puberty, mood swings, etc.
Just imagine yourself if you were able to be removed from your physical body. You wouldn't have urges to mate, eat, wouldn't get up on the wrong side of the bed, etc. You'd still have intelligence, but your motives would be different and you wouldn't be subject to so much outside interference.
You're right, on the surface it looks like any other gnome based distro.
However, if you install it on a bunch of diff laptops, then compare it to another linux distro, you'll quickly find that what makes Ubuntu so good is that there is a lot of polish underneath.
Widescreen is detected and configured. Most wifi cards, auto mounting of external drives, sound card. Even special keyboard keys function on most systems I've installed it on.
I think Ubuntu is headed in the right direction. What makes Windows so great for noobs is that they install it and then they click to get on teh interweb. No mess, no fuss. One shouldn't have to spend all day trying to get the damn OS configured.
They don't cancel each other out, so you better get a REALLY REALLY large hard drive.
I really like this idea. Part of the agreement is that you must donate your organs when you die - You in effect are GPL'ing yourself.

This is already happening.

Google will read your page for some meta tags and will not cache your pages if you request it not to.
They may own ~30% of their stock, but the RX-8 parts list shows it's 99% parts made in Japan.
I'm not looking forward to it mostly because the socket has changed, so i can't upgrade my turion based laptop :(
This is backdoor way to hit Google and level the playing field so that Microsoft can have a chance at hiring halfway decent people, randomly.
Are you calling me color blind?
unusual is my spelling too.
> Toy Story 2 was something very unusual for Disney--a sequel that was actually good.
:)
The only thing unusable is tha you're attributing the sequel to disney when they had nothing to do with it.
look up crossover office.

It's a STD. Google it.

Most of the new titles I get from netflix have it. So I assume it's pretty widespread.
These days, you can just swap out the miniPCI card and install a new wireless/bluetooth one for about $30.
Buy my new PCMCIA powered mouse pump! I can see it even being included as a standard feature of the all-in-one phones.

It's called crossover office. Try it, works like a champ.
And the GP2X also runs linux.

So 80% of 100 is 20%. And so 2 out of 10 are bad. In a factory in CA. A factory in CA has 80% good out of 20% bad. In a factory in CA.
