    Crossover office can bridge that gap by letting you run ms office, photoshop, dreamweaver, etc.

    They have a free trial too. I'm impressed with it.

    I thought they were useless at first, but if you have a cell phone like the sidekick2 where web browsing is super slow, but AIM works flawlessly, the bot will let you do movie lookups much quicker.

    I had two cell phones with them.

    The first account was long over the year contract - having had them for some 6+ years. The second line was fairly new, under a year old. I activated a second line on the first account for $20/mo to share minutes. When I wanted to cancel, they said the second account (completely seprate from the first) renewed my 1 year contract for all THREE phones. They went on to claim a $150 disconnect fee per phone, including the add-a-phone.

    I'm never dealing with sprint again.

    MS would throw a fit. Anyone who doesn't want windows on their box is clearly going to pirate windows. Therefor the logic is to charge you even more when you don't get windows preinstalled as you're going to be pirating it anyway.

    This isn't about file sharing where the creator gets nothing for his work. Google is providing a service that matches people up with the books they seek. They aren't providing the entire contents of the book to the user. When the user buys the book, both google AND the author gets money. It's a win win situation.

    This is no longer a true statement. You can now pop in a CD and install linux just as easily as you could windows. My proof: My wife who used to be a mac user, converted to windows in the last 10 years (Mostly because I am a PC user). I installed CentOS on her desktop and she still had no issue. She's not a programmer and isn't that technical (she asks for help plugging in her scanner). Yet she was able to use linux with wifi, firefox, thunderbird, gimp, etc.

    In America it's about the individual. What are your rights? In Singapore it's about the greater good. What is good for the country and for everyone. Less focus is made on serving the needs of one over all else. People assume Singapore is communist, but the officals are publically elected. It's all about culture and their viewpoint.

    There isn't a lot of space to drive cars. Tons of them on the road as is. They rate cars by engine size, the bigger the engine, the higher the "Tax" is. I belive my RX-8 costs around $80,000 over there.

    At any rate, unlike here in america where mass transit is a joke, you can get around quite easily by bus, taxi, and MRT. I know because I got around that way for the 8 or so years I lived there (I was 12 at the time)

    It's too slow.

    It also has a finite number of writes that can be done before it quits working.

    If you want your system to run faster, look at the gigabit ramdisk PCI cards that are coming out this month (?). Get four of those, a raid card, and hook them up together. Contents are kept even when the computer is switched off.

    You're thinking only of yourself. What applies to you doesn't apply to the rest of us.

    I do development work on my laptop, so I have web server, database, several gigs of data, plus source code for several trees that are worked on concurrently. I could easily use up your 80 gig hard drive without an issue.

    If I start adding mp3s, movies, backups from my websites, 120 might not even be big enough. I have over 600 gigs in my home computer.

    Our old box was a dual 2.4 (or was it 2.8) ghz xeon.

    The new box is a quad operton 950 with 16 gigs of ram.

    Both ran as web servers. To give you an idea of how much faster the opteron is (Yes, I'm aware it's 2 cpu vs 4), the xeon box with Zend's php caching is twice as slow as the opteron box without any php caching on a php application with 250,000 lines of code.

    No contest at all. Even if we pulled two of the cpus, I'd be willing to bet similar performance.

    Who exactly saves a "bunch" of money? They cost several hundred more than my amex car insurance. My previous car insurance companies such as AIG were similar to Geico in cost.
