Civilization has removed the engine through which drives the evolution of the species.
First of all I partially agree with this statement, but not fully for the statment is vague.
And to the parent of this thread, how can you not understand that our modern society has practicly reduced Natural Selection to almost nothing.
The process of Natural Selection isn't taking place because civilization now controls it's environments, for the most part.
But for the sake we are all on the same page, here is a refresher of Natural Selection, and it's purpose behind evolution.
Natural selection is a process by which biological populations are altered over time, as a result of the propagation of heritable traits that affect the capacity of individual organisms to survive and reproduce(Wikipeida)
Here are the keywords.
Hertiable Traits Surive Reproduce
To sum this up, basicly Natural Selection is the process in which the weak (DNA) dies, and allowes the better Strong(DNA) surive. The question is how does this process do this.
Through the habitat that the life form resides in.
The individual life form that is best suited in it's habitat, which logicly should live the longest life, will re-produce more than all the other individuals since it's existance time was the longest. Therefore, it's genes will be a majority in the next generation of the life forms. Like wise, the creatures that struggle the most in it's own environment die off quicker than the rest of the population. Because of this, they will have the least amount of time in which it can re-produce, so NATRUALLY, it's genes will not be as abundant as the genes of the better surviving individual. Eventually through time, only the best Hertiable Traits, make it to the top, as each generation becomes better at surviving. As random mutations occur in each generation, only the mutations that help in reproduction or it's survival get passed on, as genes that don't increase surival or re-production abilities, Natrually they won't be a dominate gene found in future generations, as the gene does nothing. When a mutation occurs in a individual, that makes it superior in surviving or reproduction, the individals overall time in which it can reproduce, or how much it can reproduce, increases, so it's genetic traits are found more often in future generations. So on and So on.
Here's an example. Lets say we have a creature with only 1 ear. So it can only hear good when it's ear is facing the sound. But then 1 is born with 2 ears, both that work. Well, he has a HUGE advantage over the rest of the group, as this new individual, will be able to pin point food or predators, much better than an individual with 1 ear. So he will most likely, live longer than any of the other creatures, and if this is the case, then that trait of the 2 ears will pass on, depending on how much this creature mates. So while the other creatures with 1 ear gets eaten or can't hear it's food, they usually only live 5 years. But the creature with 2 ears lives 10 years, therefor it can re-produce 5 years longer than one of it's same species, so it has way more offspring than a normal 1 ear creature. All those offpsring, well they inherited the trait, and they have 2 ears. Eventually the 2 eared creatures will fully replace the 1 eared creature because it can survive much better. (by evading it's loud predators better and hear it's food better)
So there you have it, Natural Selection. It only allows through time, the good genes to pass, the genes that are responsible for allowing the creature to best co-exist in it's habitat.
This is where society has destroyed that engine. Bad genes are not being blocked at all, they are getting through the exact same about as the enhancing genes. If this is the case, then there will never be dominate traits that increase our ability to survive. As both bad genes and good genes get flushed out equally. If this is the case, and the fact that most mutations are deadly or they do
The radio is free to listen to, because it uses's advertisting to generate income
The internet, connected through an isp for most, requires a subscription to generat income, there are no adds delivered by the isp to the subscriber.
The Tv, requires a subscription to watch channels, and delivers adds to the user, to generate income.
So in order to watch TV, you have to view adds, and pay a subscription.
???
But I would also like to add, I really don't think piracy helped battlestar galactica as the article mentions. As if I were to watch all the pirated versions, I wouldn't re-watch them on the tv...
And even if I did go tell people how awesome the show is, it's not like they are going to go watch it because I told them too. Only a select few will go do as I recommend.
Well I'm glad I'm using my parents PowerBook with Safari atm.
But when I get back home, maybe I should try and figure out a way to get notpad to browse the net, it seems the only safe windows alternative.
Check out Mario Metronome Piano Video #3. That's that one that show's his skill. It's crazy. He's fast. No one cares about the blind fold. I've amazed at his speed. He is like Bruce Lee of the paino. Can't even see his hands move sometimes.
And I think he's pretty talented if he can do a song backwards. Ive never heard of that.
Is if robots are able to finally replace all labor work, then what happens to the workforce that is derived from teenagers? Fast food joints, gas-stations, assembly lines, customer service...
If robots were to completly remove all labor jobs, then this would leave teenagers and others to do what? And eventually robots would be able to repair robots, meaning humans would'nt be needed at all. The problem, people without 'specialization skills' are completely unproductive to our encomony, they can't even be a consumer, because they have no income, because robots can do everything they can do. This would mean until they achieve a skill, that is usefull in the workforce, they will be completely dependent on their parents, who hopefully, won't get replaced by a robot.
Jump into the future, robots designing, building, repairng robots, and programing the robots.
Again, every step, completely removes the human.
theoreaticly, if you had robots good enough, you could replace allmost all humans. Eventually all humans, wouldn't need to do any 'work' at all. It's all done for them. The food that needs to be made/cooked, all the products they use, all the health issues, and labor tasks, are taking care of. If this is the case, what would humans do?
We all can't do one job, or just 5 jobs. There would be too many humans for the job.
The idea behind robots, is to replace what humans do. What if the robots can do everything work related we can do.
The problem with robots entering the work force, is that it is going to save them money, meaning, they profit. Does this help the economy? no, it makes it worse, as less jobs are available. As more and more jobs get replaced by robots, less money goes to society, and goes to the corporations (this is where greed is bad). If they do not lower their services or products (they just elimiate labor costs)
The economy just gets hurt.
The only solution to this, would be robot competition. But eventually, products and services would either have to become completely free, if the robots replaced all humans 100% in the work force.
The end result is everything in life is free. Money is no longer needed. Welcome utopia.
The problem is converging. How do you balance our economy, while you replace our workforce with robots, dumping less money back into the economy as more robots enter the economy.
Robots can replace 1000's of jobs, but not 1000's of new jobs will be created with the era of robots in the workforce.
Yeah I agree it's not a big deal. But HardOCP was also proving the point that Tim Roberts, is a con-artist. Remember Media Fusion anyone? The ability to send internet packets over the magnetic waves of the power lines? The guy that started Media Fusion, used advanced technical jargon, and his charsima, to make people invest in a technology that did not exist, but he sounded like he could do it, so investors invested. So all these poor people, heh, not really poor, but they get con'd into investing millions of dollars, for whatever reasons they are investing (more for own profit, of course) into someone, that is lieing straight to their face, and really just going to steal their money. It happens all the time. Con-artists are everywhere. But this guy Tim Roberts, sounds like he's not just con'n the investors, but the whole world, making us all believe in the PHANTOM (key word) gaming console.
Of course, he might really be building one, or, he might be a con-artist. And all while this is happening, he's gonna get another 10 mill from some smhuck, and it's not going to Infinium Labs, but right to HIS backaccount. And there is nothing we can do about it. Question is, should we care. It's a moral issue. HardOCP see's it, and saw Tim Roberts, as a obvious target, someone who they could go after and get. Most con-artists, you can't really catch.
But remember, this can all be smoke and mirrors, because if the Phantom gaming console does come out, then it's a different story all together.
Well according to Star Wars Insider, Dook is supposed to be killed early in the show. And I can assume these pics show that anakin kills Dooku, this is probably when he takes his masters side. According to other sources and star wars insider, palpatine changes form, once he un-clouds the vision the dark side is shrouding. I'm not sure if that means he physically changes, or that he can hide is appearance so well, he can jedi mind trick everyone into looking the way he does (its not really jedi mind trick, it's some sort of spy technique, where you look different from what you are)
General Grevience, is supposed to also die early in the movie as well, I think Star Wars insider shows this. He is basicly a proto-type for Palpatine. Not sure who kills him. All I know is he can fight with 3 light sabers. And he can kill jedi quickly. Samual L Jackson also dies of course. I think he also bites it early in the movie. I think either palpatine kills him, or grevience does.
One of the later battles will be between Anakin and Obi-wan, where somehow obi-wan gets the upper hand, and somehow anakin's body falls or gets hit with lava (aka his dark life support suite).
After this I have no idea if we get to see him in his vadar suit killin jedi, but if we did I'd imagine it wouldn't look good, and hopefully they don't use CGI vadar.
anyways, thats about all I know
I loved metal gear when it first came out. 3 was awesome. I think it's a underated series.
Althought it's not as good as the game im working on, http://www.blackskygame.com/. just kidding.
anyways can't wait, well im going to have to wait for about 2 years or so:(
It's sad that the whole industry is going like this. I think indie gaming is the way to go. I'm trying to be one with my game http://www.blackskygame.com.
even if it fails maybe it will get me a job. But after all this im not sure I want to work in the game industry.
I was walking into staples and was talking to one of my friends who works there. He noticed some guy walking in with a printer, then he said to me "shit that is the 4th time he has come back with a printer".. then he said, he has the new mac os, none of them would intall on his panther os.
yeah your right sorry I was angry.
But behind that one lined single sided argument lies that I think religion is created to try to help understand what life is. Out of fear of the unknown, or curiosity of life, they create, out of fiction, the most beliveable and logical thing at that time. I suppose an all powerfull being that creates life and what not, or watches over the sun or whatever, is as good as any creative idea. Then again I've never met anyone that has written a bible.
But you know the thing, people are afraid of the unknown, so they either destroy it or turn it into something they can understand (or helps them try to understand).
The thing is you can have faith in anything imaginable. But what good would that do?
I can easily belive aliens created me just as well as god did. Or just as fair, I can belive I was created by mighty powerfull trees. I can't prove it but I can belive it. But to what end? Why would I be any better beliving god1 created me instead of god2, or that one exists over the other?
just ranting, u know what I mean:P
My god is real yours is not. Prove other wise. Oh paradox, waste of time, same argument. DUMB. Which bible is the real bible, how many gods actually exist? If religions contradict one another, how can one be better than another? Can they all be true at the same time? God is not perfect. How many gods exist or existed in some time? how many religions exist on earth?
Belive what you want.
Small minds make up answers to stop fear, or the truth.
"At that point, Neo thought that the Architect and the Oracle were tag-teaming him with planned bullshit answers. Why would he suddenly lose his backbone and accept a non-answer to one of his biggest questions, all while feeling angry and betrayed? Because all you got was the usual Hollywood inconsistency. Which is the same reason why Smith didn't slit Trinity's throat in the Logos when he's never been shy about racking up a body count before that."
They don't actually say what the windows are made of in any of the TNG episodes. In generations, the window above the bridge shatters (glass).
But in the original star trek movies, scotty gives away clear aluminum technology back. It's assumed all the windows are made using clear aluminum, or something similure, but definetly not glass.
